Don't give special treatment to anyone at all just because they're good. If they can't set up a date and time like everybody else, that's not our problem. Just give them match losses and move on to Round 4 pairings. Both of the matches I mentioned above are between good/decent players. Giving them losses would f*** everything up and ruin the credibility of this tournament.Actually, running the tournament and bending the rules specifically to help out specific people in the tournament is what ruins the credibility of the tournament. I mean... that and behaving like asshats in the discussion thread but that's a whole nother problem that's probably mostly on me more then anything. tl;dr - Start behaving like a tournament organizer, not a drinking buddy. I'm not remotely involved in the organization or handling of the tournament. The only role I had was to collect Decklists and pass the info on to byak, which has been completed. I resigned from coverage reporting a long time ago, I occasionally watch matches for the sake of it, and I look at the progress of stuff in this thread every like 3 days. As for judging, I'm a DN admin now anyway, so I'm as good a reference for rulings and procedure as I ever was on YCM. But Byak doesn't keep me updated on how he's running the brackets or things like that. He's the guy you complain to for the extensions and stuff. But hey, if you want my opinion, here it is: - Favoritism is bad. All players, regardless of skill and popularity, deserve the same amount of leeway as you'd provide to anyone else. In this case, minimal. - Timezones is an issue. Like...a severe, terrible issue. Now, it is stated in the rules that if there's not a good reason for delay, it's a matchloss. This IS a valid reason for delay, but now we're moving into holding back the entire tournament, and so there are two good options: 1) Go to round 4. Give the affected players a match loss/draw (or hell, a "win" to imply a bye). 2) Go to round 4. Have the affected players play a match against someone in a better timezone, whether tourney neutral, or volunteering. If the latter, do not negatively affect the volunteer's stats (but only if they played their Round 3 match). The result of that duel is for the affected player's Round 3 stats. Proceed with Round 4 as normal. 3) Continue to gripe about how two good players with perfect records cannot manage to Duel one another. Whenever there is a protest about delays, insist on this viewpoint until everyone drops or the tournament is cancelled. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Also, I expect to see more complaints in your inbox from this comment. Just be a responsible family man and do the right thing this time, even though it isn't "right" in your mind. Again, you may hate yourself and a couple of people will hate you afterwards, but you helped to make the rules for this tourney. The best you can do is enforce them and move on to Round 4. For instance, Koko and I talk all the time on weekends. But on weekdays, he gets off as soon as I get on. This is problematic.
