Makο
Apparently, the US government doesn't use Wikipedia, or any of the other thousands of websites that were blacked out yesterday in protest of a certain bill or two that would do just this. NOW where am I to download my Minecraft mods and Textures packs?

Makο
Found this in the comments. "People who sell needles should be arrested because some people use them for illegal drugs. People who sell cars should be arrested because some people use them to run others over. People who sell pens should be arrested because some people use them for libel. Package delivery services need to be shut down because some people use them to ship illegal drugs. Banks should be shut down because some people keep illegal items in safe deposit boxes. What's the difference from arresting people for running a cyber locker business? And policing the world takes on a whole new meaning when the US government shuts down a Honk-Kong site and arrests CEOs in New Zealand. The rest of the world needs to tell the US to sit down and shut up for a change; the US is not a god." I actually agree with this.
I think that although some sites would be censored, we have to take into consideration that the people who are pirated have a right to their respective works. I mean, take a look at Stephanie Meyer. She was writing a new Twilight Book, Midnight Sun. She is no longer working on it, because someone leaked part of her manuscript. Now, imagine how many more works will be left unfinished(She was reported saying she will continue writing MS when people forget about it) because parts or even whole pieces will be leaked, redistributed, etc etc. Who's freedom of speech are we taking away now? Of course people have their rights to their work, but ultimately you cannot logically stop leaks. If you want to stop leaks, you keep your info safe. You keep firewalls, and all that shizzle. Not to mention this is probably just the fault of some weirdo just stealing the details of her manuscript physically. Perfection doesn't exist. SOPA is dreamy minded. I understand that censorship is an important issue, but people just blindly support SOPA assuming its the ONLY thing it addresses. There are more than just censorship - Piracy(obviously), Copyright law, etc etc. I haven't seen anyone(not to say there are none, which i know to be true) complaining that copyright law supports the artists, even though art (in my opinion) should be shared not for profit. Yes, I know it seems contradictory to support art for arts sake, but then support a pro-copyright law, but the artist has a right by law to stop people from breaking copyright law. If we cannot stop leaks fully, does that mean we should allow the leaks to do so uninhibited? That's like saying "oh man, a house is already on fire, let's add accelerant to it" Also, you havent really said anything about why SOPA is so bad. How is SOPA "dreamy minded"? What flaws do you see in it?
SOME sites, mask? ~/Coolio Prime\~
SOPA is obviously overreaching, but it should be just as obvious that Megaupload was a source of illegal act upon illegal act. There have been some studies, though, and the only industry to actually lose anything to all this pirating on the internet is the porn industry. Glad to see Obama standing up for DragonDildos.gov, I guess.
.Rai
Concerning piracy and copyright: Piracy, of course, is a big issue but making an act which basically hits websites with nuclear bombs just to make sure they got rid of piracy is a rather stupid thing to do. There are many measures that companies can take to stop piracy, but trying to stop it further with drastic measures is a fruitless effort. I'm an artist myself, and I frankly can't be bothered about piracy. I'll go out to try to stop it as much as I can to plug the flow, but I don't try to destroy the pipe holding the flow. It's selfish, as frankly, it's helping a minority and hurting a majority. That minority can easily be fixed in other ways, because they are a minority and there are less cases. And you can't just say nothing will be lost. These websites are foundations of modern society. Whether you like it or not. It would be like destroying the Statue of Liberty because it doesn't actually do anything.
