Uhh... several of the owners were arrested. I'm pretty sure that's fake from that fact alone.

If not, I'll point out that clicking any of the buttons just reloads the page for me.

Yea, was looking around twitter and that seems to be the case. I dun goofed.

I just found an english dubbed version of Viper GTS after Boobinz shut down and this happens? This means WAR! We will not stop until All the Mega sites are brought back to their full glory! Who's with me!?
Nobody should, because this isn't due to SOPA or PIPA. This has been investigated for 2 years. The site's whole reason for existing was to get profits through illegal means, hopefully unlike every other hosting site.

This wasn't done by some Internet police, but real cops who busted a serious crime operation.

Well Megauploads was removed for a good reason. Although forcing it was unseen and quick, it would take a long time to get SOPA/PIPA to unban their victims.

Traitor!
In any case, this is one reason why Sopa and Pipa should not pass. We must keep fighting. There's more of us than there are of them.

All we can do is hope the president vetoes it or the Judicial Branch say it's unconstitutional. Megauploads is only 1 site.

Look, I liked and often used Megavideo/upload over the others, but that doesn't give them a free pass a clearly, maliciously, and purposely breaking the law. The Internet should be a place of "free advertising" for songs, anime, manga, and the like. Not a safe zone for criminals who make major profits off of copyright laws.

Get over yourself if you think a website which caused damages around $1 billion in copyright infringing would be left up. (Again, i'm only going off of what I've read, the news could be utter BS).

Why? Because a site that was made to make money illegally was taken down?

Megaupload being taken down most likely has nothing to do with SOPA or PIPA. Get over it.

All right. It's just I had this plan to use megavideo as a source for screenshots of anime and such since the annoying options that appear in other players don't appear in Megavideo videos when you can print them off on screen.

I don't know of another player that offers that kind of freedom.

How does America have jurisdiction on a site based in Hong Kong? Or is that incorrect?

Taking the site down was right and wrong.

Wasn't based in Hong Kong. I want to say Sweden, but that might also be wrong. Either way, the US did this with the help of several other European contries.

Must have read the articles wrong. W/e. Still, they US did this with the help of a lot of other nations, so they did go though the proper channels and what not.

Okay, but the thing is, not everybody used megaupload for illegal means. I mean, some people used it to store personal files (if they're in a band, music- if they are a writer, stories), so with the utter deletion of Megaulpload, those files, if I'm not mistaken, were completely wiped away. I'm just saying there could have been more warning for those that used the sight for less harmful means.

The US searched foreign servers apparently as well. Like they have the authority, The US is filled with morons. Correction, the US government and the people behind it. They tried putting the wiki leaks owner on trial for TREASON when he doesn't even live in the US. As for the piracy. You can't stop that. USB, portable hard drives, SD cards, blank DVD disks, blank CD disks, and many other writable objects will exist. I can go to my music shelf, copy all the files on the CDs and burn them or transfer them. I am helping piracy. Piracy is easy and can never be stopped. This is the internet version of the alcohol ban in the US. Hackers will be making more money than ever, especially the ones using onion networks. For example, http://kpvz7ki2v5agwt35.onion/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

They don't. However if they were working with other nations (and they were since the arrests were made in a few foreign countries) then they are more then able to.

And your acting like just because it can't be stopped means we shouldn't take action against. That is just a very foolish thing to think since even the people that are against SOPA/PIPA still say that something should be done to lessen the amount of illegal downloading and file sharing.
It isn't worth taking action against if it can't be stopped. Sure you can "lessen" it but can you be sure you're really lessening it? The link I just gave can only be accessed by Tor browser but the link itself has been up since 2007. There you can find a lot of illegal activities and it is being done massively. Let me give this example. The US alcohol ban. No drinking or selling alcohol allowed. Let me change that up a bit. No selling or drinking alcohol PUBLICLY. Now watch all the people go home and get drunk of their asses and selling the alcohol at home. Onion networks are the same. You could lessen all you want on open websites but it can be covered up and done on onion networks.

The simple fact is you can never stop crimes. However letting it go unabated is simply foolish. The key if limiting the number of open source of it since that is how most people obtain a lot of there illegally obtained material. While a good number of them will simply move on to the underground sources not everyone will because most people aren't that savvy. So yes, you can lessen it, and it is worth it, even if it is only 1% since 1% still adds up when your talking numbers in the millions.
