Guys. When Evilswarm Thunderbird comes into TCG land, buy your playset before the price tag swells.

Okay, this time, unlike the "Forest" thread, I'm deadly serious.

During either player's turn, when the effect of a Spell, Trap, or Effect Monster is activated (except during the Damage Step): You can banish this card you control. During the next Standby Phase, return this card that was banished by this effect to the field, and it gains 300 ATK. The effect of "Evilswarm Thunderbird" can only be activated once per turn.

In other words, it's almost impossible to kill it.

I mean, 21 duels already with my Troll.dek, and I've summoned this at least 5 times, but it's NEVER died. NEVER. In this format it's quite literally IMPOSSIBLE to kill this thing. Those of you who know should understand what I mean. Those of you who don't...

...Well, this sells for about 1000 yen in Japan. Which is approximately 10 dollars. And it's only a Normal. In Japan, this is quite rediculous.

See, this has amazing potential. It's a staple in many OCG decks nowadays, and while you guys all say "the Japanese are all lunatics because they run Raigeki Break in anything", believe me, this card is hell broken.

If I were you, I'd buy my playset the day it comes out.

Again, just for verifacation, unlike my last Forest thread, I'm serious.

So after the first time it's on the field, it's essentially a 1950 beatstick that can't die.

It looks pretty sweet, and can help make a Rank 4 if you can't get going.

It would leave the field either way. It's essentially the same as being destroyed for the purposes of an opponent's Battle Phase...

-Level 4 DARK, meaning it's fodder for Evilswarm Nightmare

-1950 ATK

Seriously, it seems worthless on paper, but once you actually use it you'll be surprised at how amazing it is.

Chaos Dragons don't care about this card because even if you do Banish it, they'll OTK you anyway. If it negated the effect, it would be helluva lot better.

I summon Jurrac Guaiba.

I summon Lyla.

I summon Sabersaurus/Kaboozles.

I summon Kycoo.

I summon Lightpulsar/Chaos Sorc/BLS/REDMD.

I summon Alius.

I summon Rescue Rabbit and don't give 2 shits because I now have a walking +1.

I summon Dragonfly and don't care because it's 1 less card stopping damage.

Yeah I'm not even remotely sold on this.

In a deck that runs Thunderbird, Chaos Drags are more than likely to encounter Opium, which severely fondles with their strategy. Just saying that Chaos Drags have better OTK when Thunderbird leaves with eff or they are pretty much anally defeated.

I'd like to see you make Ophion before they make even any kind of counterplay. You have one way to make Ophion in a single turn and that's from a Rescue Rabbit. Then you've got to keep that Ophion out against a deck that runs 3 Ryko and 3 TGU, along with draw power to get them.

Mandrago and Castor say hi as well.

Evilswarms generally have many ways to counter the outs that people put out against the deck. Veiler and Fiendish are both very common choices against potentially game-changing monster effects, and Evilswarms can side very easily against decks that can avoid these two. Aren't Evilswarms a top tier deck in Japan Kenta?

I'm saying that Evilswarms can adapt well to adversity, depending on the situation.

Your reasoning is the s*** cards?

Best variant of the deck is using Rabbit with Heliolope, Sabersaurus, and Thunderbird (with some other techs idr).

You're basically saying you need a lot of combo plays to even stand a chance against a deck, that doesn't necessarily mean you have a good matchup.

Guys

We don't even know if chaos dragons are going to be a deck by december.(Or november, whenever this is released)

It could be a better meta in TCG land for this card by then.

I'm pretty sure that half the format can kill this thing though via battle or some other means.

Rabbit > Two Sabersauruses > Laggia

At any point during this, banishes this does nothing because you will eventually end up with a 1950 beatstick that gets killed in two turns against a 2400 ATK Laggia.

It's only good if a Deck emerges that makes use of it. I can give some credibility to Evilswarm Rabbit of course, but unless that sort of Deck becomes top tier, this card won't be as godly as advertised. Maybe if it had an original ATK of 1950, instead of just a boosted ATK.

Note that this isn't coming out until what I can assume is next format, which we should expect to not have Rabbit, Dragons, or Inzektors, so anyone who used them as an argument should reconsider those points.

As for people saying "summon a monster with more ATK", this card isn't going to be on the field by itself, at the very least, it will be there with a backrow, a backrow that will both defend it, as well as give it an effect to banish itself. When it returns, I highly doubt the monster the Opponent summoned has over 1950 ATK without using an effect of their own.

Still, the thing with this card is not that it can't be killed, that just makes it better than some of the other ones. What makes this card good, and why Darkplant is even suggesting this in the first place, is because it's fodder for all the Verz monsters, most notably Ophion.

  • 1 month later...

Obsedia, I almost feel sorry for anyone that doesn't see potential in Thunderbird (which also included me about 20 minutes ago). I used to think it was atrocious, but only because I disregarded it from the first translation we got months ago where it could only banish itself during its controller's turn. This card is simply fantastic. Wind-Up Rabbit, but also a beater.

nice necrobump

OT: i was also a little unsure of this cards' potential until i started testing it. iirc it was a like WU-Rabbit (not run at first, but tested great)
