General Meta Discussion

Recommended Posts

Hey, a useful thread that makes complete sense for the section but wasn't in place before? That's weird.

That's right, kids, this is a thread for us all to discuss the Yu-Gi-Oh! Metagame as a whole: What cards are hot right now, decks that you love/hate for the format, potential counters or support for current Meta cards, and so on. Basically, if it has anything to do with what's going on in competitive play, it can go here.

If you're just going to list a deck, that goes in the Deck section, not here. You have to have something to say without writing out a deck list, but it can pertain to a particular deck/build.

Have at it!

A lot of people in my area have actually quit playing for the rest of the format because of how bad it is. I still enjoy going to locals because I have fun playing, and at least Bubblebeat can stand up to Chaos Dragons a little, but this really is the worst format I've seen in quite a while.

I've played ever since the TCG started, and have accepted most of the power creeping moves it's done over the years, but in this format, it's finally reached the point where I officially withdraw from competitive playing IRL.

Balancing staff is not doing what it's supposed to do.

Current format is at an all-time low.
Before, duels would last a minimum of 5 turns.
Now-a-days, its 3, and it follows this pattern:

You draw~
Did you draw your 1-card FTK?[yes/no]
Does the Opponent have an out?[yes/no]
Gg, you win.
-
Does the Opponent have Veiler?[yes/no]
Gg, you lost.

And "1-card FTK" can range from just using Heavy Storm, to "magically" using Typhoon on the Opponent's only set Warning.
From there, you proceed to instant-win.

That depends what you mean by "meta". I know a lot of different metas. About the current banlist:

For the TCG, the meta of most YCS has widely varied, though the Top 16 has been dominated by a handful of strong Decks. This is not cool. However, certain Decks that were not expected have also won YCS. That is cool.

I don't have a local TCG or OCG meta.

Dueling Network Meta consists of a huge range of different Decks. I have not seen any tournaments on Dueling Network where every Deck similar to one that has won a YCS went undefeated against every Deck not similar to one that has won a YCS.

I have not attended any major OCG tournaments; I don't know what the meta of any one was.

Since I've been severely inactive, here's my question about the meta. What's popular right now? Are Inzektors, Wind-Ups, and Dino Rabbit still the rage?

Add Chaos Dragons to the list.

I think the worst part of it all is how all this could have been avoided if konami did something on the march 2012 list.

Well, maybe with all the people leaving and the competition picking up konami will do something this list. Maybe.

At least it's a rock-paper-scissors format, not dominated by just one deck like the times of Plant Synchro/Synchro Cat/Tele DAD/Airblade Turbo, etc.
That being said, I dislike most of the decks that top, at least TCG-wise.

At least with formats like TeleDAD, it was however was the most skilled player who won really.

Not sure if anyone else feels this way but this format is the pinnacle of "Buy our new stuff", making it a total turn off.

A trading card game focusing on selling the cards in question?! Heresy!

I do my best to avoid that by sticking with Dueling Network (that, and there's plenty of players at my rather low skill level). Remember kids, if it exists, there's a cheap or free way to get it over the Internet.

You don't understand. Every Tier 1 deck now is [s]practically[/s] built for you by Konami. At least we had plants that allowed for people to have differences in their decks.

I have reached my limit of likes for the day :(

Not to mention on how much they obviously outclass other tier Decks.

lol no. TeleDAD was whoever opened nuttier than their opponent.
;-; I must have had some really strange experiences with the format then.

I'll take your word considering that that sounds pretty believable.

Its funny how everyone thinks Tele-DAD was a great/skilled format....The format was basically play Tele-DAD or don't bother showing up. Also...the Mirror match was hardly ever about skill, it was more like who ever drew the nuts first won. Alsooooo, anyone with some level of logical thinking skill can pick up a Tele-DAD deck and rape face with it...hell, first time I played the deck I was beating players in my circle who were vastly better than me at the time.

As bad as this format is....it is pretty nice that we have like 5-6 of decks we can play and still be able to compete.
