-Doodle
does it work the same way with earthbounds for example?
Sleepy
It's always had that ruling, which I find stupid. If a card cannot be attacked, it is still a monster on that side of the field, and by the rulebook, that player shouldn't have the possibility of direct attacks. Or at least that's how I see it. I assume it's a ruling, Yusei did that against an Earthbound at some point (or attempted it) in the anime. I think Legendary Fisherman had that ruling too. If it's about balance, I think this card deserves to be able to make a wall by itself after needing that condition. Unlike the past 2 packs and Decks, I really really want to buy this Legendary Collection, because Orichalcos, Kaien, Guardians, other classics. Agro
I can't wait to collect all these cards from LC3. Gonna be fun. On a side note. Does Tewart post anywhere OTHER than Pojo? It's really rather sad given their reputation.
darkwolf777
It's always had that ruling, which I find stupid.
I believe I've explained this card's wording and ruling many times. I don't really like things being called stupid when the card text it originally had worked for it. Kay'est/Legendary Fisherman: "Monsters on your opponent's side of the field cannot select this card as an attack target." Earthbound Immortals: "Your opponent cannot select this card as an attack target." As you can see, Kay'est/Fisherman affect the opponent's monsters. Earthbound Immortals affect the opponent him/herself. Next consider Kay'est/Fisherman as a Ghost. Ghosts have no physical bodies. Now, I am your King and you are my Knight. I order you to attack the Ghost. You try, but your sword goes right though the Ghost. You, my Knight monster, CANNOT attack the ghost because he's immaterial. You cannot attack because it is physically impossible to. Now say in the same way, the Ghost wants to protect a king from another country. I order you, Knight, to attack the other King!! The ghost tries to get in front of the attack and take the blow for his king! Instead of being able to block the attack, the attack goes right through the poor ghost. In this situation, the Ghost cannot defend against an attack because it cannot physically stop that attack. This is pretty much how Kay'est/Fisherman works. The monsters cannot attack them because they cannot be hit. Because they cannot be hit, they can be ignored by the monsters and attack directly because they cannot get in the way of the attack and make themselves get hit. You cannot declare an attack against something like Fisherman because you cannot perform an action which is impossible to do. For Earthbounds, Monsters can hit them. The King unfortunately cannot give the order to attack an Earthbound due to that effect. Why do I see things like this? Because I don't simply pass things off as stupid. I check the wordings, I check the rulings, and I find what logically works with both the wording and rulings and what they're trying to do. Hopefully this explains it better. Also, I really hate a lot of these wording changes. The new text for this card is trying to put "you cannot declare an attack on this card Also, Let me give you one more ruling: You know how I said these cards affect monsters? "Vennominaga, The Deity of Poisonous Snakes", who is not affected by Monsters Effects, CAN Attack Kay'est/The Legendary Fisherman with their effects activate. This new wording would invalidate that. CrabHelmet
If you need to look up rulings to understand what a card does, then the wording is stupid. If a card is well-worded, it will actually tell you what the card does without the help of BKSS rulings or moon-logic. That's what having good wording means. If what a card does is not clear from its text, then its text is by definition not doing its job properly. (And darkwolf's explanation, which pretty much requires working backwards from the ruling to find a justification for it and requires one to conclude that the difference between active and passive voice implies an apparently unrelated difference in effect, definitely doesn't save this card's wording from the stupid bin.) Dominion is a fantastic example of how to write cards well.
darkwolf777
If you need to look up rulings to understand what a card does, then the wording is stupid.
Hmm. I decided to give it a go in WC11 just to make sure and its kinda odd. If you control two monsters, one being "The Legendary Fisherman", then Vennominaga can attack both monsters. If "The Legendary Fisherman" is the only one you control, you are forced to attack directly. Something about that doesn't seem right and only half supports what I thought would happen in regards to Vennominaga vs Fisherman
CrabHelmet
So the wording is so terrible that either: 1) Even working backward from the answer you can't come up with a way to justify why it does what it does, or 2) Even Konami doesn't understand what the card does and can't program it properly Out of curiosity, exactly how terrible does a card's wording need to be before you'll stop objecting to people saying it's terrible? -Berserker-
I want this in holo in LC03. Super Rare would do OK. Even if I will not play it, this is a card I like.
