Another thing that gave bullies more reason to pick on him was the fact that he was adopted into a young [acronym=who runs the local zoo where he lives]married couple[/acronym] at the age of five. With all the bullying and a few unknown factors of Hyaku's first 5 years of life, his mind developed a split personality that was rather cruel and harsh to just about every living thing called Rei to help fight off the bullies. After killing the family pet during a fit after dealing with some bullies, Hyaku and his foster parents spent years on finding the right medication and dosses to 'lock away' Rei. Now in his twenties, Hyaku prefers to spend most of his time playing video games of all sorts with people online, finding them to be generally more nicer than people in real life. While with people he knows comfortably, Hyaku lets out his inner geek, is fairly confidant and tends to be a show off at times. With people he doesn't know, Hyaku tends to be shy and hardly talks, not wanting to give strangers a specific reason to tease him, taunt him, bully him, etc until he can get a good feel for what that person's like. When he's with people he does and doesn't know, Hyaku tends to stick with the people he knows, only speaking to people he doesn't know when he absolutely has to. He's a little less shy and has some confidence, but just enough to be able to deal with the current situation. Also, I get the feeling he'd try and meta-game somewhat from his personality, which I couldn't tolerate. Furthermore, I felt that we had to balance out the species and your's wasn't going to cut.
