I agree. Even the pokemon TCG has a card with a "search anything" effect. (That was recently released)

How was this a Red-Eyes monster? I thought capitalization mattered, so the R would have to be capital for it to be a Red-Eyes monster, just like the difference between "Hero" and "HERO" now. (Also why Vehicroid support uses the text "Machine-type "roid" monsters" with a lowercase r.)

Name originally was Hund[i]red-Eyes[/i] Dragon in the TCG. The dash was errata'd out.
The whole HERO thing was to keep cards like Hero Blast and Hero Kid from being mistaken as part of the archetype (HERO cards in OCG were written as "E * HERO" or "D * HERO"). Roids were just roids and could be taken either way.

"Activate if you control a "HERO" monster" will not work on "Hero Kid", because its name does not include "HERO". It contains "Hero".
"Activate if you control a "Red-Eyes" monster" should not work on "Hundred-eyes Dragon", because its name does not include "Red-Eyes". It contains "red-Eyes".

Differences between TCG and OCG rulings are explained weirdly. Hero kid doesn't contain "E * HERO" or "D * HERO" in the japanese name, so it doesn't count. Hundred Eyes doesn't contain "Reddoaizu" in the japanese name so it doesn't count.
