Girl has her stomach removed after drinking liquid nitrogen cocktail

Full story: http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/19866191

Basically girl out for her 18th bought a drink with freezing toxic chemical mixed in it and nearly lost her life because of it.

Because some people are really, baffling stupid.

So you enjoyed that cocktail: then try my latest creation. The malibu and hydrochloric acid!

I appreciate that most people here are under the drinking age, but still; Discuss.

I hear you. I couldn't help but think that it serves her right when I first heard about this. Some people are just plain stupid and shouldn't be allowed outside. Has anything been brought on the club that was serving the drink? The last I heard was that they had removed the Nitrogen from their drinks list, but surely having a drink that contains an extremely dangerous substance is illegal anyway?

You're 1 day .

OT: I pressume they omitted the fact they'd used Liquid Nitrogen? I mean, surely she ain't that stupid.

Hey, I work nights. I was asleep for most of yesterday :D

I checked no-one had already posted it here, but since no-one had I though it would be all good.

Unless I've got it hideously wrong, she knowingly bought the cocktail over the counter as a popular bar speciality...

The only logical way I could possibly understand this would be that the cocktail required Liquid Nitrogen to cool/freeze it rapidly before serving, and maybe a little got left in?

I mean, don't get me wrong, shame on her for drinking a potentially dangerous drink, but regardless I can't help but feel she's not all at fault here. She can't be that stupid to drink it.

Unless, of course, she was a ditzy bimbo thinking "Ooh, like, Liquid Nitrogen sounds totally cray-cray~! I've so got to, like, down it ASAP~! LOL~!!"

Some people use liquid nitrogen as dumb fun gimmicks at bars or something.

In fact the article says as much.

I've had ice cream made with liquid nitrogen. As in, it was sugar + cream + some other flavoring + liquid nitrogen directly poured into a large bowl and mixed. It was perfectly fine, and dozens of other students had it too suffering no ill effects.

I don't think the girl here was stupid. I just think she tried a thing that's normally safe enough as long as the guy who's serving it knows what he's doing, like those guys with the super poisonous blowfish. The bar's at fault TBQH.

That's a pretty good way of putting it actually.

That's why I'd never be stupid enough to eat that poisonous fish either.

Surely there's many other ways to make things 'frothy'. Like Pika said, it's completely the place who served it's fault.

The bar say that they hope she gets better soon.

I bet they are. Whilst barricading the doors and hiding from the lawyers.

I can confirm Liquid Nitrogen is safe to use for ice cream. I've made it several times(under supervision of my Teachers) for fundraisers.

Hatcher knows her stuff.
