Magic Cylinder

Recommended Posts

Everyone should know it by now, but here's a summary

Magic Cylinder
Normal Trap Card
Negate an opponent's monster's attack and inflict damage to your opponent equal to the attacking monster's ATK.

A "Pure Karakuri" deck got top 4 in regionals with 2 Magic Cylinder maindecked. I think the main reason it may have worked for them is because their deck is an OTK deck, on top of how many Life Points players pay nowadays. Therefore, the opponent is more than likely going to be weak very quickly in the duel, and a Magic Cylinder will push for that last bit of damage that ends the game. The person who played the deck also said it helped create mind games once the opponent knew they had the card, where they didn't want to attack due to fear of losing enough life points to be in the danger zone/lose.

Not a bad card, if you're facing a high ATK monster, but I guess people would tend to prefer the removal from D Prison/Mirror Force/whatever to the burn. I seem to remember it being on the banlist at one point, which says something about how the game developed.

Not OT: Got two of these in 1 Battle Pack this week.

My opponent Summons shooting quasar. I torrential. He negs. Proceeds to attack.
I flip Magic Cylinder. He's like "Alright, attack again for game?"
I flip second Magic Cylinder.
Watched him troll quit.

He went for Quasar while you had 3 traps set?

Other cards just do it better. This card deals damage, but doesn't get rid of the problem card in the first place. D. Prison, Mirror Force, etc do, which is why they are more preferable. However, in a meta that deals with Life Point intake to negate cards, these at 3 could start a difference. A minor one, but none the less a difference.

Not really. You never see a single copy of Magic Cylinder being run in the meta. If it was so useful, then why aren't people running it?

Two things. 1. You have your tenses messed up, or you didn't read my post. 2. Just because a card is not ran in the meta now doesn't mean it's not a good card.

No, I read it. But Main Deck space is so cramped anyway that Magic Cylinder can usually be cut. I'm aware that it's a fairly decent card, I'm not saying otherwise. But, like said, other cards do it better.

Warning is Semi'd, and -2000
Judgment is Limited, -4000, assuming you used it at full 8000

So more or less, everyone pays at least 4000 LP per duel.

Yea, it will do that.
Also, I get the feeling his Opponents never really drew any Spell/Trap removal.

No card does Magic Cylinder's job but Magic Cylinder, and I guess that one Dimensional card that forces your opponent to take your Battle Damage. I think what you mean is that "other cards accomplish more at that time".

EDIT: Also, it was a girl, not a guy.

Well you can always chain this card to Mirror Force to get rid of the attacking monster AND deal loads of damage

o3o

But yeah, I like this card

Used to use it a lot, tbh

And I feel it can be very useful

Especially ever since I played the GX GBA game and Zane summoned Cyber End Dragon with Overload and I used this

Second turn of the duel - win .-.

In my Acid Golem Burn deck, I ended up winning because of this, since my opponent was more weary about my golem plays. I also didn't draw into a Creature Swap the entire time during the third duel (we played 3 duels, but I won all of them). I sided this in. Usually it is not in the main deck because swapping Acid Golem is the deck's win condition, not a secondary condition. However, he didn't have heavy the entire duel, and ended up walking right into this with Red Nova Dragon. He only had 2000 Life Points left anyways, but overkill is the best kind of kill.
