YVD Stands for Yugioh Virtual Desktop, it allows you to duel online with other people using basic functions and connectivity.

It is very good and all online yugioh duelists use it, many online duelacademys require it.

Ok My first tutorial, it will be split into sections:

1. Downloading YVD

2. Using YVD

3. Importing Cards Into YVD

4. Deck Building

5. Connecting/Dueling YVD

These will be the 4 topics. I will get them all done as soon as possible and make this as detailed as can be.

1. Downloading YVD

Ok to be able to follow this tutorial accurately, you are going to need the program i am going to be discussing about.

Head over to this website: Click Here

One you are on that website, scroll down a bit to the section with 'YVD' in it. Click the Download Button next to the file which reads YVD 8.6 Installer. Once downloaded, install the program. Do not launch it yet, we still have to get some more things.

Head over to this Click Here

Once on that website click 'Sets Page'. Once on the sets page, Download the file 'Complete Sets file for 8.6' Once downloaded put that file into #/programfiles/YVD or watever your directory is. You dont have to put it into the SETS folder, but some people reccommend putting it in the SETS folder and just the YVD folder.

Ok next click on the Images Page. Once there click the Full Images pack. The full images pack is a complete installer so you should have no problem with that.

Ok I think that about completes this section.

2. Using YVD

Ok, Open up YVD by following the shortcut created. if u get any errors, go to the YVD folder and double click on the YVD shortcut in there.

Once opened you should see a 'menu' It says Duel, Chat and Settings. Ignore chat and settings for now. Click on Duel. You should have 2 screens load up entitled 'Deck Shop' and Yugioh Virtual Desktop. Click on Deck Shop. Do you see a card list in the middle? Try searching for a card you like. For the purpose of the tutorial i will be using 'Cyber Dragon'.

Near the top there should be a search with different filters. Type in the 'Name contains Box' Cyber Dragon. It should bring you up with 2 cards: Cyber Dragon and Proto-Cyber Dragon. Click on cyber dragon and click on the Add button under the header Deck. You should see the cyber dragon move over to your deck list (the right hand side). Experiment with this, and get used to the filters. You see the 'Load Deck', 'Save Deck' and 'Import New cards to database'? We will be using them later. Well, we are going to use one now. Click Load Deck. A Folder should pop up with one .dek file in it. It is entitled 'worst ever deck' Load this up just like you load up a Word file. (clicking and then selecting load). We know this deck is rubbish, but we need it for educational purposes.

Click the Big and Obvious Use this deck. You should have a message which asks you whether you want to or not. Click yes. You are now on the main deck screen. This is where you duel from. Lets test things out.

First you use Ctrl + S to shuffle your deck. You can also Click Gameplay, then Deck Gameplay then shuffle deck. Now, click the button with Deck on it, you should draw cards, just draw 5 for now.

Now lets find out how to play cards, select your yugioh cards in your hand ( in the bottom left) and right click them, right click a monster ( draw more cards if u dont have 1) and select one of the options for it (Put into play, put into play face down, put into play face down horiz). You should see a card on the field. Right click that card and see what options u can do. If you want to see your graveyard click Graveyard. If you want to see your deck, you need to go to Gameplay ---> Deck Gameplay. I dont want to explain everyoption fully, so take 5-10 mins to get used to the options. ( For lifepoints rightclick the field anywhere and you will find out how to do them, you can also do this /sub 1000 /add 1000 in the chat box)

Section 2 End.

3. Importing cards Into Database

1. Open up notepad. Every card has to be a separate line. Here is how to write the cards: (NOTE: | is not / or \; to get | do SHIFT + \ (\ is above the enter key)

Monster:

|Monster Name|#|SET|Type/Other|Attribute|Level||ATK|DEF|Effect or Description|0|

Spells:

|Spell Name|#|SET|Spell Card|Spell||Icon|||Effect|0|

Traps:

|Trap Name|#|SET|Trap Card|Trap||Icon|||Effect|0|

Explanation:

Name: Obvious

#: Just the card number. This isn?t really important; just start at 1 and count up. The only thing u have to make sure is that no two cards in the same set have the same number, otherwise it won?t work.

SET: This is the set abbreviation. Just put in ur 3 letter one for ur set (For instance, If ur using Beasts u might want to do BSF, for Beast?s Fury

Type/Other: Type is just the monster?s type, like spellcaster, warrior, or dinosaur. Other means things like effect, fusion, ritual, etc. If it?s a normal monster, just put in the type.

Attribute: Obvious

Level: Obvious

ATK: Obvious

DEF: Obvious

Effect: Obvious

0: This is just to show the end of the card. U gotta put it in every one.

Icon: This is the icon, like Quick-Play, Ritual, or Field. If it?s a normal spell/trap, then just leave it blank.

Here are examples of cards:

|Dark Balter the Terrible|2|LOD|Fiend/Fusion/Effect|Dark|5||2000|1200|"Possessed Dark Soul" + "Frontier Wiseman" A Fusion Summon of this monster can only be conducted with the above Fusion Material Monsters. When a Normal Spell Card is activated, negate the effect by paying 1000 Life Points. The effect of an Effect Monster that this monster destroys as a result of battle is negated.|0|

|Earth Chant|99|IOC|Spell Card|Spell||Ritual|||This card is used to Ritual Summon any EARTH Ritual Monster. You must also Tribute monsters from the field or your hand whose total Levels equal the Level of the Ritual Monster you are attempting to Ritual Summon.|0|

|Mirror Force|138|MRD|Trap Card|Trap|||||You can only activate this card when your opponent's monster declares an attack. Destroy all Attack Position monsters on your opponent's side of the field.|0|

2. After u?ve made the set, save it (so u have it for later).

3. Turn off Wordwrap (under format)

4. Highlight all ur cards, and copy them (ctrl + c)

5*. Open up yvd.set (It should be in your yvd folder; if u don't see it, turn the types of files from .txt to all files)

6. Scroll all the way down to the bottom of yvd.set (make sure wordwrap is still off) and paste your cards into there (ctrl v). I would recomend doing a blank enter space between your real cards and fake cards, just so you can tell when you start looking at fake cards

7. Restart ur YVD, and it should be there.

*: If this doesn't work,

1. go to My Computer (or right click start menu and go to explore)

2. Go to your YVD folder (usually in C, then Program Files)

3. Open yvd.set by opening it; if a menu comes up asking you which program to use to open it, select notepad.

4. Continue on with step 6.

If you wish to remove your fake cards from YVD, go to the yvd.set file, delete all ur fake cards in there, and restart YVD. (Of course you did save the set in step 2, meaning you can always put them back in )

If u want to remove ur cards, just go into the yvd.set file and delete them.

[this is not my original tutorial it is someone elses]

Here is what I suggest.

Make a new Notepad File, and add cards in using his guidelines.

1. Open up notepad. Every card has to be a separate line. Here is how to write the cards: (NOTE: | is not / or \; to get | do SHIFT + \ (\ is above the enter key)

Monster:

|Monster Name|#|SET|Type/Other|Attribute|Level||ATK|DEF|Effect or Description|0|

Spells:

|Spell Name|#|SET|Spell Card|Spell||Icon|||Effect|0|

Traps:

|Trap Name|#|SET|Trap Card|Trap||Icon|||Effect|0|

And make your cards using that. After you have made your cards, save the notepad file as .set in your YVD folder, then open up YVD and Click Import New cards into database, it will let u search your .set file for new cards to be added. Then give you option to add them. I dont know why, but some people advise against this. Please tell me if you have errors.

So remeber click the Import, select your created .set file then click check all then click add cards.

4. Deck Building In YVD

This will be a small topic.

1. Monsters, use the search filter so it just searches Monster, then type the name of your monster in the Name Contains. Then Pres Enter or Search. You can also set the Star Level, Attribute and such.

For all things, Just UNTICK the boxes of the thing su dont want to search for and leave ticked the things u do want.

2. Magic, same as before, you can search for type of magic.

3. Same as Magic.

You can also search for Certain Sets. So your only searching for cards within that certain set. When you find cards you want, add them using the Add button beneath the Deck header. Fusion cards automatically go into a fusion deck and dont count towards your final count. Sidedecks can also be created by clicking the add beneath the Side Deck header when you want a card to go into sidedeck. (i am not sure how to get cards out of your sidedeck into your deck for exchange in te middle of duel). It will give you a running tally of your cards. Sometimes it gets it wrong be warned. Once youv finished your deck, click save deck, name it and save it. You can open your decks in notepad.

5. Connecting/Dueling

Ok to duel someone you need their IP. I myself am behind a router so i use the service provided by Hamachi. I suggest everyone uses this, even peopel w/o routers. This part is based around using Hamachi so GET IT.

Hamachi = http://www.hamachi.cc

Download Hamachi and Install.

Load Hamachi Up and Follow the Starting Tutorial. Once you have done that make sure you are Online. *You will know what i mean after doing the hamachi tutorial*

Click the Network Button, and Select Create new Network. Type in the name and password. You have to tell your opponent this name and password so they can connect to it. To connect to the network you select the network button and then select Join network, type in the name and password then connect. Once you are connected to your opponents network or your opponent is connected to yours. Load up YVD.

Load up your deck by using Load deck, make final changes, then click Use this deck. Then Click 'Game' on the main duel screen. If You connected to your opponents network click Listen. In the Your ips box, double click the hamachi IP. get rid of the message, then click Listen. Now your opponent has to click Manual Connect, Go to Hamachi COPY their opponents Hamachi Ip by right-clicking and selecting copy adress ( on hamachi) then pasting it into the manual connect box, then they have to select connect. You should be connected now. AND you can start your duel by flipping a coin (gameplay) or rolloing a dice (gameplay). You can talk by using the chatbox. If the opponent connected to your Network, you have to do the opposite of what iv just said (connecting and listening).

Clear some things up..

YVD stands for Yugioh Virtual Desktop, It allows you to play Yugioh over the internet with people using simple connection systems and a basic layout. It uses a special database system to import cards and get the newest cards.

To get the newest cards;

Read this Part at the top: and where it says click here, click it. That website will give you download links to all the new cards and images.

The website:

www.scrollrack.com

Check original post .

Josh, hope dat clears things up.

Ok, I'm confused on that comment... do you mean you were able to downlaod images to YVD, or are you saying the cards would look like they would if you didn't download an image int eh YCM?

Also.. I can't seem to be able to save it as a .set file.. i have it all done, but it wont save as anything except .txt

I MEANT (sorry for not clarifying) that I have put my set in, it doesn't show up the images, JUST as it would look if you didn't (which I also did [or didn't, depending on how you look at it]).

You have to manually save it as a set file. Save as, and in the Save menu (ie the box with the folders and stuff, normal Windows thing), you have to type in what you want to call it (no effect to the actual saving, just for purposes of recognition), then .SET on the end. (All this is done in the "File Name" box.)

Sorry for not answering, but i havnt been active.

Few things, i dont know of that error, is their a button just to ignore it?

And for people talking about trying to get their own personal images of made up cards into the game this is what you need to do:

1. Make a folder in the images directory within the YVD directory; eg: C:\Program Files\YVD\Images

and make a new folder with the 3 letter or watever coding of your set; eg Monks set: MOS

2. Get all the images you want for the card images SEPERATELY from your card, so right click save them from google or watever.

3. Resize all of the images to the size of the card images what are already in your folder, so, go into one of the sets and open one of the images and find out the dimensions, its along the lines of 40,40 or something.

4. Rename all of the images to the card they are related to. I think its without spaces, so only use "-" and "," i am not sure of this.

Then try it out, i think this is the way, Oh yea when making a folder and renaming it, i think it might be lowercase. Check me on that one.

Thanks

Does it actually know what the cards do?

Because if, for example:

Flameshadowxeroshin: I play Raigeki!

NTR: lol effex dont work

Flameshadowxeroshin: Crap.

That would be bad.
