Card of the Week: MAGICAL HATS!

Recommended Posts

It doesn't really say the cards cannot be activated, so I guess Temple of the Kings would hurt badly.

I'm guessing Fake Trap would not let you keep them?

OT:
The card has many lower but balanced uses, like the Traps that benefit from being destroyed while face-down, which can be stopped by just getting attacked. Of course Geartown is the one combo that will have some sort of impact there.

iirc, there is also Ojamagic. Giving you ridiculous pluses, if you count the 2 shields and their effects separately, it's like a +8 in one card xD (very fun btw)

Special Summon the tower of prophecy.

no one would bother attacking since you have to show your opponent the non monster cards you pick and then its destroyed by your own effect.

ojamagic on the other hand is a pretty good play, especially if you can negate your opponents attacks so it doesnt get flipped. if you have poly handy you can get knight and king out which is cruel, but situational.

You wouldn't be able to activate their Spell or Trap effects while they're being treated as Monsters on the field.

Since they're being treated as only Monsters, you wouldn't be able to use Fake Trap to protect a Trap you set using Magical Hats.

At the end of the Battle Phase, the Spell/Trap cards set by Magical Hats stop being treated as Monsters and are destroyed due to being a Spell/Trap Card in a Monster Card Zone when its not allowed, not necessarily destroyed by the effect of "Magical Hats". Therefore, you cannot prevent their destruction with something like Forbidden Lance either (assuming they were flipped face-up with another effect or not destroyed by battle when attacked in order to use Forbidden Lance on them).

not exactly. the cards summoned by magical hats are destroyed by magical hats at the end of the battle phase, but the effect cant be negated because it is a lingering effect of magical hats.

Lingering or not would not change that.

If a card would be destroyed by a lingering effect and it is immune to its effect either because it cannot be destroyed or because it is immune to the effects of said card, then it will not be destroyed. All "Lingering" refers to an effect that either continues to apply or will apply later without the help of a card that currently is not in play, generally because the card had already applied its effects and stated it will perform these effects at a later time. Even if it does not start a chain, it is still considered to be an effect of that card.

For example, which is a pretty common (or maybe I mean simple combo that you may have seen) example, if you summon "Gaia Drake, The Universal Force" via "Summoner of Illusions" effect, during the End Phase, the lingering effect of Summoner of Illusions will attempt to apply, and if Gaia Drake still has its effect, it will not be destroyed since it cannot be destroyed by Monster Effects.

Another example: I can use Rekindling to summon a monster from my Graveyard. I can them apply the effects of Forbidden Lance to that monster. During the End Phase, I can apply the effect of Rekindling first to destroy the monster. Since its not affected by other Spell/Trap cards thanks to Forbidden Lance, it will not be destroyed by Rekindling.

As you're saying, correct: you cannot negate Magical Hats, it has already resolved, so its lingering effects will attempt to happen. That doesn't mean that other cards can cause those effects to be ineffective, such as with the examples above.

and what if you picked trap monster(s), just on the thought of it, could they potentially survive from their own effect?

Trap Monsters are Trap Monsters when summoned by their own effects. Unless their own Continuous Trap Effect activated and is being applied, they would not be considered a Monster by their own effect.
