Not really him but Peter Parker. Still all the more reason to discuss this.

If you want some more information then google it.
Interestingly enough this is the SECOND time he's died, albiet a different story line.
The new series is to be called the Superior Spider-Man
.
Discuss this and other Super hero deaths. And Beloved heroes in general potentially dying.

By the way I am currently raging over this...but at the same time I cannot.

The way I see it, Slott is going crazy with how much he loves Doctor Octopus and is trying to write a redemption arc for the character, but this is a status quo that will be undone by the time The Amazing Spider-Man 2 comes out.

I agree, because despite Peter having charcater flaws, he can work them out. Giving the Spider-Man mantle to someone like Doc Ock might Spell a recipe for disaster. It's clear that Ock's ego is one of the driving factors for being evil in the first place. You can redeem him, but killing off petey? What will Mary Jane do? Black Cat? The Venom Suit? 3 Females who lover PETER & SPIDEY dearly, not to mention Aunt May.
I sense another deal with Mephisto coming and maybe some corrections/changes to Peter's persona. I have no doubt that Ock will be a great Spiderman, but can he do it whilst still keeping the aspect of who I am am as a human? No because he's already lost that in taking up the spider man mantle. I just want Peter cack, in previous comics, he doesn't die anytime soon and even has a daughter. So what is this?!?!!?!?!?

I smell a lot of burnings...

Flash Thompson has the symbiote, and the world thinks that Otto is Peter. The problem is that with Peter dying in Otto's body, he doesn't get the heroic death that Ultimate Peter got. May (Peter and Mary Jane's daughter) was supposedly stillborn, but it was soon revealed that her death was faked, although Mac Gargan later suggests that she's dead. I'm under the assumption that Gargan was simply mistaken just as Peter and Mary Jane were, so she could have still been alive. However, when Mephisto cycles through the various forms he took, he reveals May is effectively erased from existence. I believe it's phrased in such a way to imply that May wasn't born yet, and that she's simply the child the two of them would have had, but I still think it's supposed to be the same girl who disappeared after the Clone Saga.

I do want this story to ultimately play a part in undoing One More Day, but that would require Quesada, Brevoort, and Wacker to lose their power. Quesada is basically the Chief Creative Officer, which basically means he has as much authority as Geoff Johns does, while Brevoort is practically the editor of almost everything. Wacker is the least powerful of the three, but considering how much of a jerk he's been on Comic Book Resources, he's the one I want to see gone the most, especially since he's made it very clear that he's aware of how much people hate One More Day, but is still trying to fall back on the successes that have happened since then. The point is, those three got all butthurt once Peter and Mary Jane got married, and it feels like they've dedicated their career to destroying it. Quesada thought the marriage and May made Peter to old, and that they needed to bring the character down to a more relatable point, while Brevoort thought the marriage was forced, and Wacker… Yeah, I think it's just that he loves to make people mad. Admittedly, I don't know his personal reasons that make him stand out from Quesada and Brevoort, but still.

Yes whilst OMD was a giant retcon all it seemed to do was save the writers trouble. I don't like what they did to peter in that sense. If they halved his lifespan I would have accepted that more but killing his marriage over that was some bs. They could have found someone IDK the Silver Surfer, etc to help him, sol long as she wasn't dead. They could have went back in time to before she was shot back in the Civil War and saved her life, changing Peter's story maybe but then he could die after passing on some knowledge and such. I mean it isn't like Spidermen haven't traveled through time before. It is utterly disgusting and this seems to be a giant repeat of that because they kill Peter. Like WTF are you on. The only way that would make sense is if MJ asked that Peter not be SM all together as they talked to Mephisto in OMD and then people would hate that even more. Sigh...I understand fresh amd if you want fresh make SPidey fight the Marvel version of Super man as one of his villains and barely beat him. And then stop being able to stop him all together. Give him a joker, but don't make up bs.

Wham, you're lucky I decided to spoil myself on this yesterday, or I'd be pissed right now.
...well, I still am, but not at you.
I suggest changing the thread's title to "Spider-Man Ended" or something like that and then putting the OP in a spoiler so other people aren't spoiled.

Anyways, this better not be permanent. They said it was, but they better take it back.
It should be interesting to see Ock's change in character, but there's no way in hell I'd trade this for losing Peter Parker permanently.
He didn't even go out in a good way, it was a terrible tragedy and the worst repayment for all he's done.
If this is permanent in the long-run, way to show goddamn disrespect to one of our greatest heroes Slott.
I'm not going to buy Superior Spider-Man. I'll try checking issues out online if they're up somewhere, but I'm not supporting this in any way whatsoever.

I don't even get the move here, we already have an antihero Spider-Man with Scarlet Spider and Marvel already killed off one Peter Parker for drama.

Anyways, if this is only temporary like Johnny Storm's death was, then cool, should be interesting to see until then.
But if this is Peter's permanent replacement, f*ck you Slott.

NO!! When I heard that there will be a new Spidey for the Superior Spiderman I though it would be another clone..or something. God know's Peter getting clone is like a normal thing now but this....WTF! I hate how unceremonious his death was. Not only did we lose Peter Parker but a great villain in Doctor Oct. If only this was an else where storyline like DD:End Of Days.

But, this being Marvel and all I'm pretty sure he'll be back in time of the big cross over event or the end of that(Just a joke to keep myself calm, but seriously, Marvel love big event.).

It's already been announced that The Superior Spider-Man will tie into Age of Ultron, although that will have a separate numbering, starting with The Superior Spider-Man #6AU. It's going to be written by Christos Gage, drawn by Dexter Soy, and the covers will be by Marco Chechetto. In other words, it's more interesting than the main Superior book.

The BIGGEST problem here is how they choice to end Peter's story. That is NOT a dignified end what is one of their biggest names.

As for the choice of who to replace him, I've seen the diffence of making it Oct be that he is what Peter could have become if he didn't have the guidance of his uncle and I can KIND of understand that. However the biggest defense of that is a quote from the first issue of Spider-Man but that is a product of another era. Cause honestly, using that to defend the change is like trying to do something with the fact that Batman used guns in the first issues of his story. In much the same way that isn't Batman the Peter that said "Some day I'll show them all! Some day they'll be sorry they ever laughed at me." isn't what Peter is now.
