Or "how to turn the bane of the metagame into a piece of junk that nobody uses in just one format". Discuss.

iirc wind-ups fell by the wayside after Chaos Dragons rose to power, because no one knew how to play wind-ups correctly outside of the lolololhandloop.

Looking back, I feel like myself and many other people would've destroyed everyone if we played Wind-Ups last format and we knew how the deck played in this format back then.

That was probably the biggest reason those who were playing Wind-Ups at the start of the format weren't winning anything; Because they didn't actually know what they could do outside of the loop. If they stopped the loop, no one knew what to do to win. If they got out a big monster before the loop, no one knew what to do to win.

The banlist change seems to have helped the playerbase as a whole appreciate what a deck can do, moreso than just knowing the very linear plays a deck makes.

That's definitely not entirely true.
People could still do things outside of the loop, it's just that no one paid attention to Photon Pap, Shock Master, or triple Magician. I forget if Shock Master was legal for us nats (it probably was) and people had just found about Pap + Rat after the event. You were still capable of doing things without these, it's just that these additions brought so much more to the deck.

Friend of mine got looped for 5 cards, lost Hornet, topped Dragonfly and won. The issue is not that you lose your hand but that your opponent then sets about 2 backrows, which are a massive pain because generally you only then have 1 monster and once that dies you're gone.

This was never the problem. Can't believe people called for it to be banned.

It's badly designed, but it was never the problem.

I could have totally seen Konami banning this over hitting Zenmaity though. I was fairly surprised when Zenmaity was hit.
No. That's stupid.

Just because it was never -the- problem doesn't mean it shouldn't be banned

maybe it's my vendetta against hand control speaking, though
Because Hunter also made the deck go, right?

Cards only get hit if they're:
A. Problem Cards
B. Important to a deck that's overpowering the meta.

I still think this is -a- problem card, just not -the- problem card
It's a 141 card that if not for loop cards, couldn't be abused.

It's not as if you're looking at your opponent's hand and specifically choosing what card to take. It's a random thing. It's as problematic as Dragged Down into the Grave.
