Machina Gearframe, Snoww, Unlight of Dark World, and a General Discussion about Searchers

Recommended Posts

Lately, a lot of topics have come up about boss monsters, who, in their own right, can wreak havoc to your opponent in a lot of ways. But sometimes, wrecking your opponent's face in wouldn't be possible without the use of the Archetype's searcher. Machina Gearframe comes to mind as a +0 searcher that can search out it's boss, which you can immediately pull off that turn given the right conditions. Snoww can effectively search out a 2700 recurring vanilla from a simple discard. Undine can pull of an additional search as well as its regular search which then requires your opponent to jump through insane hoops to even stand a chance against them. Wind-Up Factory is essentially a watered-down version of Gateway.

It seems more often than not, that the searchers pave the road for conquest by searching out the boss monsters simply and effectively. If they do not exist, the Deck becomes less "one-trick pony" and opens up other plays for viability. It seems as though the searchers are at fault for being the ones to make the boss monsters broken.

Of course, this is all opinionated, but I felt like discussing it. So fire away.

Maybe. Topics in TCG tend to blur together after a time.

We may have talked about it before, I dunno.

Madolche Magileine. Easily the the best searcher in terms of consistent loops. She searches everyone of her Archetype including herself which can lead to tons of pluses.

Magileine doesn't search out her boss, though. Granted, the argument is fair, but cards that search out their boss monsters seem like the ones that are more broken than cards that can continually search themselves. i.e.: Magileine/Stratos.

Anyway,i think gearframe makes fortress a bit better than it should be,with how it pretty much gives it an extra protection after it searches it instead of just drawing fortress and dropping it,but i think grapha breaks grapha more than anything else in the deck other than card destruction.(not that DW are actually broken right now, though)

Gearframe is good.

Snoww is good.

Earth is good.

Stratos is good.

Wind-Up Factory is good.

Fortress is fine but people don't like having to think when they play against it.

Grapha is fine but because it and DWs in general attack the game from a different angle people scream broken far too easily.

Hyperion is fine because it really just comes down, kills something and dies. The game is full of +1s, so this doesn't seem too bad.

Stratos doesn't have a real link to a "broken" boss, so I don't even need to comment here.

Magician is the problem with Wind-Ups.

Oh and Chicken is bawk bawk.

Completely agree about Grapha and Fortress. So many people say Fortress is broken but I think its entirely balanced. However the place where you and I disagree is Hyperion. I see your points but I can't support the idea of a 2700 ATK beatstick that can be dropped for virtually no cost and instantly pays for itself.

Fortress is only "broken" for its first use. Any time to revive afterwards is more draining on your resources, which is what balances it. Grapha...gives you more opportunities to get plusses and has a massive body, plus no real cost of resources to bring back. That's why Grapha is so wicked.

Most search cards aren't bad, it's how flexible they are. Stratos has practically 3 archetypes to search for, with no level restriction or anything. But what broke it is the ability to search itself. Hence why it's at 1.

Starting cards: Magician and shark in hand

Summon mag -> ss shark, use mag to grab rat -> overlay mag and shark for papi -> Papi eff, detach shark, switch rat to attack position -> eff rat, SS shark -> shark level 3, make zenmaity -> detach 1 may, SS rat -> rat eff, revive shark (or rat, it doesn't matter) -> make any rank 3

Ending result: Papi, zenmaity, and any rank 3.

It's certainly not as bad as the current loop, but it still exists.

We can live with that.

Papi Zenmaity and a Rank 3 is not worth it IMO.

Most searchers are ok except Stratos because it searches itself and triggers when SSed, Magileine because it can constantly summon itself and possibly Gearframe because it's a +1 with 1800 ATK.

Spellbook Magician, Snoww I suppose, Factory and Earth are all ok.
