Tyrant's Tirade vs. Skill Drain

Recommended Posts

(Ignoring costs here) If we're going by what negates more monster effects as the better card, which is the better of the two?

no tragoedia, gorz, honest, TKRO, rescue rabbit, veiler(to negate the continuous monster effs), maxx c, and every type of monster eff except a continuous one

Tribute 2 monsters. Effects of Effect Monsters that activate in the hand or on the field cannot be activated.

Activate by paying 1000 Life Points. The effects of all face-up monsters on the field are negated while those monsters are face-up on the field (but their effects can still be activated).

you know what that does

hm

Not exactly much of one when you realize winning with 8000 life points is pretty much the same as winning with 100 life points.

That's not the best argument if I say staring down 7000 damage is not the same as staring down 8000 damage. The 1000 LP is definitely noticeable but it's not a massive drawback.

dur Tragoedia activates in the hand. It doesn't negate the attack bonus tho because its continuous

Ok, so you can't actually SS Trag but if it's on the field beforehand or they Call it it still has ATK whereas Skill Drain puts it down to 0.

You use the one that hinders your Deck the least. Skill Drain has a number of monsters that bypass it, like Rabbit, Rai-oh's negation, Stardust, etc. Tirade stops those, plus more, but leaves Continuous Effects untouched.

Both of them fail to affect Graveyard effects.

Skill Drain is much easier to use, as it doesn't require you to have 2 monsters to activate. The only time you can't really use Skill Drain is if your LP is 1000 or less, whereas Tirade requires you to have 2 or more monsters and be able to part with them. Both are equally vulnerable to removal.

Therefore, Drain > Tirade on the merits of playability and consistency.

I guess this would be like comparing a royal decree to a continuous trap naturia barkion

What hurts Tirade is the cost. Naturia Barkion, even in a Continuous Trap form, uses the Graveyard for its cost, and the Graveyard tends to be resources you've already used. Tirade requires a resource you actively use (monsters on Field).

What part of "ignoring costs here" is hard to understand?

In terms of its negation power, Tirade is almost always better. Tirade stops Rai-Oh's Deck impalement, and kills the utility of Maestroke and Zenmaines, but more importantly you don't negate drawbacks so it's hard to build around.

I say that Final Countdown is better than Dark Hole because it nukes the whole field, ignoring costs.

It's not hard to understand. It's that saying "ignoring costs" in a topic like this is stupid and should be ignored.

ignoring costs, theyre both roughly equal in utility. tirade stops things that activate off the field (rabbit, stardust, some others) while skill drain hits continuous effects.

but ignoring costs is dumb. we cant play the cards without paying the costs. in that regard, skill drain wins hands down. 1000 life points is really not that much to give up, and even the 2000 points you would need to run two of them in case one gets blown up is pretty minor considering what you get in return.

two monsters, however, is a lot of advantage to give up. two monsters is always a lot to give up. the only way i could see this card being used a lot is in token spam decks or the like. its just prohibitively expensive in most cases.
