Enough Sleep

Aix

Recommended Posts

So how many of you guys get a recommended amount of sleep? None of you? Yeah, didn't think so...

Decided to post this because I'm just feeling sleepy and depressed for no reason, possibly cuz I got less sleep than I usually do for the past week or so (which is still less than recommended).

[hr]Average Sleep Needs by Age
Newborn to 2 months old - 12 - 18 hrs
3 months to 1 year old - 14 - 15 hrs
1 to 3 years old - 12 - 14 hrs
3 to 5 years old - 11 - 13 hrs <-- You guys go here
5 to 12 years old - 10 - 11 hrs
12 to 18 years old - 8.5 - 10 hrs
Adults (18+) - 7.5 - 9 hrs

[hr]Discuss how much sleep you usually get, what causes you to get less sleep and any effects you feel.

During the school year, I try to get to bed at 11, but its usually 2, like Mako. During breaks, however, I go to bed at god knows when and sleep in to about 2 or 3. Because of that, I've become nocturnal, becoming active during the night and sleeping during the day.

what causes you to get less sleep

Procrastinating on homework assignments.

any effects you feel.

Being super tired, not being able to concentrate, extreme lack of motivation, regretting it, and doing it all again.

It's not about the amount of sleep you get it's the quality. So basically if your entering the right phases of sleep. Which is why a short nap maybe more refreshing than long sleep.

My sleep is usually effected by stress and excitement. Took me two hours to get to sleep on Sunday because I was worried I wouldn't be up at 4am for work the next morning.

I think the amount of sleep I've gotten for the past few weeks typically amounts to maybe averaging about 5 1/2 hours of sleep per night. Typically I would try to at least sleep in during the weekends but I've been working fairly early both Saturday and Sunday during the past few weekends. It's obvious to say that I spend my first few hours of the day really tired and the rest just tired.

After going to bed at 9 PM every night (AKA Sakurano Kurimu), I'm lucky if I fall asleep on time to get 7 hours, which is about usual though. Apparently I only need .5 more hours of sleep so I'm usually fine/just a little tired.

I sleep around midnight then wake up at 6 on weekdays. On weekends I sleep around 2 then wake up around 9 because of my siblings already yelling. So I basically get not the recommended amount except I'm particularly close on weekends. Although I used to have to wake up at 5am since my old school was 3 hours away.

EDIT: weekdays I have to do 50 vocab words for Spanish then right them 5 times each...."it's suppose to accelerate the class" she said...I still have a C.
I normally just feel tired and lazy the rest of the day and not feeling like talking. I can however sleep in my Bio class for about 40 minutes if I'm lucky.

Funny timing with this topic: yesterday I was awake for about...39.5 hours, roughly.

It's weird because after you stave off the exhaustion for so long, you just become kinda numb, but alert. But as soon as I got into bed, I was gone.

It depends on the day for me, which ones have morning classes and which don't. Anywhere from 5/6-8/9 hours basically.

I've been improving lately. Slowly getting off a bad caffeine addiction, so it's getting better. But even getting better for me accumulates to an average of about 4 hours a night, with the occasional 6-7 hours 'good day' every other week or so. Chronic insomnia, mixed with laziness and caffeine is not good for me, at all. I think I need to exercise more, because I went on a hiking trip once and every night of it I slept incredibly. Better than anyone else.

And yet, I feel very little side effects, at least with my overall performance. I'm top of the year in school for Maths and the 3 sciences, been offered a £2000 + free laptop scholarship to stay on at my school, get straight A-A*s in almost every subject...it annoys the hell out of some people :/ I feel fine most of the time, and get along just as well as other people. No anxiety, paranoia, stress, etc that is often associated with it. In fact, I'm generally a rather chilled person compared to others I know.

One of the only things I can think would be a bad side effect is some serious headaches, occasionally even migraines, which I wouldn't be able to think of another cause for. That, and horrendous bags under my eyes. But I'm hardly the most attractive guy ever so that doesn't make much of an impact.
