Fiendish Chains VS Shadow Spell

Recommended Posts

Thought this would make sense. Shadow Spell reduces ATK, which means you can use it in the Damage Step (so you won't get destroyed by anything Spell Speed 2 or lower, such as MST). You can combo with others for more reduce even, if that's your thing (which would only really be useful in case your opponent gets something big out). It also makes it unable to change positions, so you can get even more free damage when you attack the monster. Fiendish Chains on the other hand doesn't reduce anything (meaning it can't be used in the Damage Step) but it does Negate it's effects, so that's always handy. Many would probably pick Fiendish over Shadow Spell, but in some Decks, it might be more useful to have something you can use in the Damage Step, as well as something that reduces the ATK of the monster (as if you use this when your opponent attacks, if you're in the Damage Step now, the attack will still go through, so use this carefully!)

uhhhh why is this a topic

because of the different intetions one might have with these, if your intention is to reduce the ATK, but keep also want it to be forced locked in case your monster dies anyways. Fiendish's effect is mostly the effect lock, but the no attack is useful as well.

EDIT: I know that it's very rare you would use this, unless you got a Deck with extreamly good control power, but I just wanted to throw this out there anyways.'

About Lance, it doesn't have multiple uses, and the ATK and lock only works for a turn, where this would work for as long as it's not destroyed. You could use a combo of the two perhaps, and that will make it so it's later locked again (not sure if that works or not, but I think it does)

The thing is Shadow Spell is awful, it isn't chainable, and it has no viable uses.

When Fiendish Chain was $50 I tried using a couple of Shadow Spell just on a local level because I couldn't afford Chains, so without sarcasm and snarky answers like some people might give you, I can tell you from experience that I've tested the card thoroughly and it's awful.

Care to explain? Every trap starts a chain, fiendish and this card.

Lance, it doesn't have multiple uses

.__________."

OT:

Fiendish chain worked pretty well in Battle Pack format. Even better than Fiendish Chain did in some cases, but that's a very restricted format meant to make lower-tier cards see the light of day in a casual-ish way.

Fiendish Chain is better. Negating a monster's effect can ruin moves, and it prevents the monster from attacking, so you are all good when you pull it off. It IS fragile to some degree being a Continuous and all, but that's just counterability's argument.

Shadow Spell is not "bad" by itself, but it doesn't really have a place anywhere. There are cards that reduce ATKs even down to 0. Lance is one of the many cards that outclasses this card's Damage Step use, and it's decreasing effect might not stay, but it makes up for it by letting your target escape monster removal effects or even Fiendish Chain's effects.

EDIT:

The comparison between both cards is that they are the equivalent to each other for their respective equivalent character.

Jack and Kaiba respectively.
