Number C96: Dark Storm [ANIME]

NumberC96DarkStorm-JP-Anime-ZX.png

Fiend/DARK

1000 ATK/1000 DEF
4 Level 3 DARK monsters
Cannot be destroyed by battle except with "Number" monsters.
When this card would be destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard, battle damage you take from that battle is also inflicted to your opponent
If this card is Xyz Summoned by Ranking Up "Number 96: Dark Mist", it gains this effect.
Once per battle, during either player's turn, when an attack is declared involving this card and an opponent's monster: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; decrease that monster's ATK to 0, and if you do, this card gains that same amount of ATK.

I'm seeing arguments over whether the effect is when the card battles period, or if it's only when it attacks. The difference would determine whether this card is good or not.

Well, for some reason, 96 didn't actually use that effect, which if he had, he would have won the duel.

Hm.

Not gonna lie, that art is badass tbh.

Obvs he didn't, just so the plot can advance.

Oooh, so the effect in the OP was wrong then.

It is, though in X-Metaman's defense the iniitial translation was the only translation at the time.

Real life Number 96 effect:  このカードが相手モンスターと戦闘を行う攻撃宣言時に1度、このカードのエクシーズ素材を1つ取り除いて発動できる。

Anime Number C96 effect:   このカードが相手モンスターと戦闘を行う攻撃宣言時に1度、このカードのエクシーズ素材1つを取り除いて発動する事ができる。

Anime C96 Japanese text is exactly the same as the regular number 96, so it should have same text.

Frogs can use Rank-Up Magic now! Because they'd also get Number 65/C65.

Its effect when destroyed by battle makes no sense in the context it was used. Well, it sort of does, but if it was written that way in the real game, you'd lose before its effect to return the damage back would apply.

Well I don't think this effect is unexpected for anyone, but it is pretty cool. It's a reason to run a RUM besides LVF, it becomes an absolute BEAST after a couple battles (hence its animalistic form), and... yeah, I like it.

Personally, I think in the OCG it would be changed to more of:

"If you take Battle Damage from battles involving this card, your opponent takes that damage as well."

itll likely just be changed to something like the relinquished text which would be something like "When you take Battle Damage from battles involving this card: Inflict an equal amount of damage to your opponent."
