Infernity Archfiend

On one hand, I like the Infernities' core flavor. That is to say, you give up everything and give into darkness to gain massive power. In that respect, they were done very well.

 

On the other hand, I really don't get why this guy exists. To call him good would be absurd, and even comparing him to Stratos is mean to Stratos. It just does way too much for a single card, despite the singular effect.

 

I've been playing Xyzfernity on/off for a while, and it's not hard to trigger him at all. In fact, it's pretty frickin consistent to do so. And the more I play, the more I ponder... why in the hell is something like this allowed to exist in the game? I know it hasn't been a problem to the meta since its deck got killed, but it, in and of itself, is broken. It's not just Launcher as you can easily win games WITHOUT Launcher, just this guy. Granted, Launcher's stupid too, but... You get my drift.

Because Konami made Judgment Dragon and realized people loved '"Heart of the Cards" topdeck and win the game with one card' moments?
Because this card's first line is the epitome of that.

Summary of discussion: useless in anything but Infernities, must have in Infernities, most broken card in Infernities. [/thread]

EDIT: Oh yeah, and I love the new text.
EDIT 2: Probably should have kept the anime effect, which only let it search monsters, Then it would be much less ridiculous.

The only reason this ended up so busted, is because at the time of it's creation, there were no Infernity Spell/Trap cards, so saying "card" in the text as fine, as it was only going to grab other monsters.
Then came the cowboy arc, and everything went to hell.

When Infernities were first released, there were only 4: Archfiend, Guardian, Dwarf, and Destroyer (OCG only). The next amount of support was Infernity Beast, then Infernity Necromancer, and Infernity Force as the first S/T. Archfiend was only so good because it was really hard to trigger him outside of his own effect and Necromancer. Searching an Infernity monster and/or Infernity Force was solid, but not gamebreaking.

 

It wasn't until THSD that Infernity got out of control, because they shoved so much support at them that Archfiend's search effect became ridiculous, especially because they created most of the anime cards, good or bad, and then decided Infernity Mirage wasn't good enough and made Infernity Launcher, which was broken to hell in combo with Necromancer and Archfiend.

 

Honestly, why LAUNCHER existed is a mystery because it wasn't in the anime, but Mirage was, and Mirage was relatively balanced because it was a monster card that couldn't be SSed from the Grave, so it couldn't loop with Archfiend nearly as badly.

 

I always liked Infernity's handless theme. I think it was supposed to represent how Kiryu had lost everything in his life, but had become extremely powerful as a result, and during his emo phase, it was to showcase how he didn't care about living and so was willing to risk everything. But the loops and so forth killed the fun of Infernity, and I rather liked Infernity burn with Destroyer more than Infernity Synchro spam. Of course, Infernity burn sucks so...

I hate Mirage as well, but that's just me.

You get rid of Launcher, Mirage and Archfiend and everything becomes tame while still keeping the basic flavor.

Just exceedingly underpowered.

What if you unlimited launcher and one for one after banning archfiend?

I'd rather not have OTK shit flying all over the field.

Remember that they can still loop with Mirage.

 

One for One is already pretty awful in Infernity's as is and no good build runs it, so it could go to 3 regardless. If Archfiend was banned, the deck would entirely die and Mirage would be mostly useless anyway. Launcher wouldn't be that good without Archfiend either AFAIK.

Infernity is the deck that has the best topdecks, I should try them...

 

Is the Synchro or Xyz build better?

 

This honestly depends on your preferences. The two Synchro builds have much more power, merely because they can go into much better bosses, and when either build opens the "nuts", it basicially curbstomps your opponent with little effort. The Xyz build is generally more consistent and more grindy, relying on spamming Rank 3 and 4 Xyzs. The Synchro builds aren't inconsistent if built correctly, but obviously because you're working with a tuner, you may have some additional consistency issues whilst the Xyz build goes straight to NecroFiend spam to make it's Xyzs.

 

  Not to say the Xyz build is bad, but I don't like it as much. Infernities are very preference based. So basicially, the "best" build is the one you're the most comfortable with. Anyway, on the topic of Archfiend. You didn't Inb4 me, and there's no reason to kill the deck right now. Infernity aren't solitare or FTK, they deserve a right to exist like every other deck, while this is poor design, the deck isn't really doing anything in either metagame, I don't call occasionally winning small tournements really doing something. When Infernity start winning every big event, certainly.
