ihop
Could be at more than 1 if Whirlwind goes the other way. Discuss my favourite card.
Expelsword
It's actually kind of splashable because its effect can get you out of a jam, but Birdman probably wins for splashability. In Blackwings this is fantastic.
Superdoopertrooper
It should be at 3, regardless of Whirlwind. This should have went to 3 before Kalut imo.

ihop
I.... Actually agree with you. Regardless of Whirlwind I disagree with, it really was incredible with 3 Whirlwind around.
Canadian
Well with Whirlwind still at 1 I hope he meant. Cause 3 Whirlwind is silly regardless.

Yeah with Whirlwind at 1 it's not too bad, anyway I have nothing against Blackwings being meta again.
Superdoopertrooper
Of course Whirlwind should stay at 1, it turns Blackwings into Gadgets with additional effects and is a constant plussing machine. With Whirlwind at 1 (the actual problem card in Blackwings), Gale is fine at 3. It's a more balanced card than Kalut, which is at 3.

I'd rather see Kalut on the list than Gale any day.
Sleepy
Gale deserves to be at 3. There are two things that need to be said: This is the card Blackwings actually need, not that extra Kalut Outside Blackwings, it's a very searchable and flexible Tuner, that downright outclasses Armoed Bee and Little Grannel, it still wouldn't be too bad to at worst half something for defensive purposes. ihop
Not to mention this + any Level 4 makes arguably the best Level 7 synchro that doesn't require you to run other cards and isn't called Dark Strike Fighter.
Aerion Brightflame
There is no reason this shouldn't be at 3. Kalut should be lower than this. And that's basically the entire thread for ya there.
NoshpalStefan
Actually, unlike many people here I disagree that this should take Kalut's place, simply because Kalut can be avoided with a careful strategy, this can't. This avoids Bottomless, it could potentially save you from a rough situation, and it can trigger a trap such as torrential tribute if used carefully (although that isn't much of a pro as it is up to the player. And, let's not forget that this + any Level 4 = Armor master, something that really indicates how splash-able this card is.

Though, unless you are playing Dark Worlds, you really have no counter for something in the hand. The most you can do is attack with a monster that is over 1400 ATK more than the attack target, and pray your opponent doesn't have the second one. That's not playing around it, it is giving up resources so your opponent is forced to give some too, in a sort of suisidal way. Gale at least it's just a good effect in a Tuner that doesn't Special Summon itself when played elsewhere. To be honest, Armor Master is fair game. It's just a very good Synchro that doesn't really have an ideal use in or out of Blackwings like for example, Scrap Dragon in Scraps.
NoshpalStefan
You really can - strategically speaking, you can circle around him by planning out your plays - no matter which deck we're talking about. As for Armor Master, he is just a very good synchro, but considering that most good ones are now banned, I brought him up because he is a really good alternative and he's splash-able. I'm just saying that though Kalut helps, this guy utterly kills - if nothing else in BW. If they put him at 3, then BW would just be the broken deck that it was back in the day - with Kalut, BWs are just getting the fair treatment. With Gale, they're getting the full on brokenness of the game, even without 3 whirlwind.
Resident Fascist
As for Armor Master, he is just a very good synchro, but considering that most good ones are now banned Celestial Dragon Mist Wurm Stardust Scrap Dragon Crimson Blader Black Rose Catastor Librarian Formula Don't give me that shit. Just because the 4 Synchros that are banned are on the list because they are all unfairly overpowered or badly designed, does not make the rest of them bad. This is just mentioning generics. Anyway, can move up. Why is this still at 1? Blackwing haven't been relevant in years, and them slowly creeping "back" isn't doing much. Kalut to 0/1, move this up. Whirlwind can stay at 1. ~British Soul~
Why this is still at 1 with Kalut existing at more than 1/0 is a mystery to me. This can easily move up on this list, but only if Kalut moves to 1/0. I wouldn't mind if BWs became relevant again as I'd prefer to have them relevant than some of the BS decks atm. Cute Rotten Yoshika
kalut to 0, whirlwind to 0, this to 3. people in other places have the preposterous idea that this card at 3 makes some janky anti-meta deck that im pretty sure doesnt exist hella viable. also that this and shura is a good splashable engine for any deck, and ergo this cant be moved up. suffice to say, those people are really bad cuz none of that is true.
