My Body As A Shield

When your opponent activates a Spell/Trap Card or monster effect that would destroy a monster(s) on the field (except during the Damage Step): Pay 1500 Life Pointsnegate the activation, and if you do, destroy it.

I have no idea why this doesn't see much play anymore. It's a quick-play spell, so it can be played from the hand the turn you want to set up, whereas drawing dark bribe or seven tools would be no use in those situations. The 1500 payment is negligible, since if you're doing it right, you'll always have more than 1500 life points. This will negate most of the common field destruction cards, such as torrential, dark hole and mirror force. And, for swarm decks, it allows all of your summons to go off with far less worry (and chance of failure).

With Solemn at 1 and Judgement banned, this sort of negation is hard to come by, and it can even be ran with royal decree.

Thoughts?

I keep forgetting the card exists, I Know I've got a few around here somewhere, but I never use them. honestly it goes through so many cards, and the cost really is negligible if you're making a push OR defending, seeing as proper use will either save you far more lifepoints than it costs, or your opponent will be losing more than you paid. the thing is all around solid. and while your traps need to be set first to use them, and run the risk of being hit by MST no matter what you want to use them for, I'm gonna have to say this card is definitely worth the cost.

I think this is overcosted. It's great if you use it in your Battle Phase, decent in your Main Phase and can sometimes backfire and kill you in your opponent's Main Phase.

I don't see how it can kill you, unless you have less than 1500 life points of course. But even seven tools costs 1000, and that's no where near as versatile.

It might not be the best thing to draw on one of middle-late turns of the game if you are a bit depleted, but it's useful more often than not in my experience at least. And nothing it is completely foolproof anyway.

The difference is the timing. Seven Tools will almost always go off during your turn, in Main or BP, so you can take advantage of the Trap your opponent lost in order to make a push. My Body will occasionally go off on your turn, but more often on the opponent's turn, so if the 1500 LP loss may create an opening for your opponent to kill you with something you didn't know about.

Also, Lance.

Lance could create just as much of an opening for them to kill you by turning your big beater into something that can be run over and it doesn't protect against monsters.

I suppose this could see use in Decks that really need the protection.

I am not trying to compare Forbidden Lance to My Body as a Shield. They are different.

I am saying that Lance, used on a monster such as Master Hyperion, will stop the effects of My Body as a Shield...though most monster destruction comes from Traps nowadays.
