900th Post (Arcanite Magician/Assault Mode)

This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card cannot be Special Summoned except with "Assault Mode Activate". When this card is Special Summoned, place 2 Spell Counters on it. This card gains 1000 ATK for each Spell Counter on it. You can remove 2 Spell Counters from this card to destroy all cards your opponent controls. When this card on the field is destroyed, you can Special Summon 1 "Arcanite Magician" from your Graveyard.

I bring this up because I'm at 900 posts, and this was the only level 9 with 900 ATK (other than the new Deep Space Cruiser 9, but we already have a topic on that).

Honestly, the original Arcanite is widely perceived to be better since he could remove Spell Counters from anywhere on your field to destroy stuff. That includes a freshly-activated Pitch-Black Power Stone. This also means the original could retain a respectable 2400 ATK if a good Spell Counter reserve is built up (Citadel Endymion).

Arcanite Buster, well, without Endymion or other means of refilling his Spell Counters, he's stuck with trying to swing with a pitiful 900 ATK after pulling off the field nuke and is just asking to be killed on the following turn. Doesn't help that we got Supreme Arcanite later on which sacrificed explosiveness (had a OPT clause) for a draw option.

That's not why it's better. It's better because it doesn't waste Main Deck space for an inconsistent card that doesn't do enough for the effort.

The fact that OG's 400 after popping twice is hardly an issue.

Arcane Apprentice can make Arcanite Magician if you somehow get those other 5 Levels onto the field, which can easily be done with The Tricky or Instant Fusion, then search AMA for you. Miracle Synchro Fusion, on the other hand, would need to already be in your hand so you can make Supreme Arcanite (or you somehow have a Level 5 Tuner or so for your Synchro Fusionist, which seems harder than just using Arcane Apprentice + Instant Fusion). This allows you to expend Arcanite Magician's two counters without worrying about it getting killed by a random mook by replacing your now-400 Synchro with something that can nuke the field if it survives the turn somehow. Since AMA is a Trap for whatever stupid reason, this could also let you frustrate an attempt at effect destruction, provided your opponent somehow doesn't go for AMA first.

Unfortunately, Arcanite Magician is a terrible card to revive, since it'll just be a 1800 wall that can't explode anything unless you have your Cathedral out with plenty of counters to go around. And its field nuke makes it vulnerable enough to die via papercut, unless, of course, your Cathedral is out. Then it's just a 1/turn field nuke that probably has enough ammo to get you through the game.

Off-topic: In my TF5 Spellcaster Deck, I seem to draw this card way too often for a card I run @1, which is absolutely frustrating. Which is why you run Supreme Arcanite rather than this, if anything. Plus, you can make Supreme Arcanite with any Spellcaster Synchro, instead of just a dwindling 2400-ATK double-killer that cries because BRD exists.

Just seems like a waste to me. Assault Modes were hard to use anyway, and this guy is just the worst. Effect is nice, but even JD is easier, does the same thing, and can attack for 3000. Deck specific blah blah blah, I was making a point. And Supreme is better for not actually needing Arcanite. Just summoning the original Arcanite is a pain at times, but that could just be me.

That's because JD is a total jerkface. Plus, this is a 1-sided field nuke if that means anything.

Yeah, this does suck because it is deader than a dead person when you draw it and stuff, but it's still a pretty fun-ish field nuke when it does work.
