ITT: Extra Deck is now part of the Main Deck

Recommended Posts

Basically, there is now no 15 card Extra Deck. Instead, your Extra Deck cards(Fusions, Synchros, Xyzs, etc) now go in the Main Deck. They function the exact same as they did before. The catch, now, is that you can only play the ones you have in your hand at the time of when you could make such plays.
As in... If your playing Evilswarms, you get 2 Level 4s out; You can't make Ophion unless its in your hand/drew into it.
You Normal Summon Scrap Chimera to revive Scrap Beast, while your hand only has Stardust Dragon; Too bad for you, since Chimera can't be used for that.
etc
etc
You get the idea.

Discuss how this would change the game, on such a drastic level. For starters, it would make things less Extra Deck dependent and/or require you to find ways to search your stuff.
That, or, you know, people play Wind-dominant decks just to use Tempest's ability to search for said Dragon Synchro/Xyzs.

Pretty much all Extra Deck monsters become more specific to Summon than Tribute Summon monsters, so odds are that they all get ditched in favor for decks that can function properly without them. Especially Fusions, which require such insane conditions for the most part, and having now that extra drawback renders all non-HERO ones useless, and even some HERO ones.

Synchros and Xyzs I can understand since their Materials just have to match certain basic qualifications and they don't retain any of the essence of their Materials other than in Ranking up or Accel Synchros.

Fusions in the other hand are a direct mixture of specific monsters, they are the one kind of card in the game that actually justifies an Extra Deck existing for real.

Though moving on from what I am saying above, let's say Extra Deck monsters are not dropped and remain in use to some degree. Apart from taking into account how it adds an extra -1 factor to all of them:

I'd have a problem with the consistency issues. Consistency is the one factor that hurts in here. You either have a slower-paced game, or a way to be consistent about your plays.

Now, my question (among many) is that, with this, could some monsters potentially see release from the ban list/limited list?

If so, which ones, and why?

Also, decks would either be stupid slow or just ditch the idea (Xyz etc)all together.

It would take time to play the game which is nice, but "lel look what I top decked" would be so rampant that the game would quickly grow boring. It's basically which decks draw what they need to (some could be searched though, giving some archetypes dominance) and also would fatten decks to being unplayable. The odds of a handful of useless cards would be HUGE, imo. I really don't like this idea. Crushes too many decks, makes others too fat, and (as said earlier) gives DW etc too much power.

Finally, lel CED. Reminds me of when I actually put Fusions in my hand when it happened. And then I Normal Summoned them. Who could blame me, the card didn't say it couldn't be *shot*

Rank Ups would feel godawful. Rituals would be just fine. Fusions would also be bad. But I assume Searchers would be added for them and their counter parts. Maybe a Stratos that searches Fusions for HEROES? =D

Any Xyzs for something that's higher than rank 4 will be terrible. Xyz will be terrible due to being a -2, and unlike Synchro or Fusion, you can't even do something with them due to them having ranks instead of level.

As I've said before, decks that always relied on maindecked boss (Grapha, Garunix, Prophecy, Mermail to some extent), and Monarches will be the only viable deck.
