SFCCG - A MTG CCG Discussion Thread

SFCCG - SoulFire's Created Card Game

 

For several years now, after being a member of the former LCCG, and current ACG. I have had a desire to play more community based CCG's. With my recently dying interest in YGO, and my increasing interest in MTG I have searched for a medium to play on, and I have found it.

 

We will be using Cockatrice to duel, however I will need the help of a few members to manage this and keep it up to date.

 

One thing that's very important about this CCG compared to others is that I want it to be lore based. The original founders and I will develop the original story and it will develop as the time progresses.

 

Right now we are on the very very very early developement stages so feel free to discuss everything! Feel free to ask any questions.

 

NOTE: The cardpool will start from scratch, with a different image for all of the lands each set. It is okay to submit cards from the TCG as one of your submitted cards during Set Submission. These TCG cards will act as "Functional Reprints" where the card has the same function as a TCG card but has a different name. It is also okay to receive influence from cards or even remake cards from other games. Each set will be rigorously balanced and expect your cards to be edited as the game develops. Also: cards must fit the lore and theme or each set.

 

When cards are submitted for a Set a card image is REQUIRED, however just the image. The cards will be held on Multiverse so they are easy to keep track of.

Current Goal: Design Core Set / Set Skeleton Below

- 155 commons (28 per color, 10 gold, 3 artifacts, 2 other lands)
- 125 uncommons (20 per color, 10 gold, 10 dual lands, 3 artifacts, 2 other lands)
- 80 rares (11 per color, 10 gold, 10 dual lands, 3 artifacts, 2 other lands)
- 25 mythics (3 per color, 10 gold)
- 15 basics (3 per color)

We'll eventually update the skeleton with more information. At the moment, I've assigned spaces for the dual lands and the 5 mythic mono planeswalkers. The rest's up in the air.

I agree. I believe there's a Cockatrice import tool that someone on MTGSalvation developed. I'll have a nosey, or possibly Klav knows it too.

My only other complaint is that we should allow real life cards. Unless we're literally allowed to make a card with the same effect and different name, so a functional reprint. But even that's pretty excessive.

Okay, that is fine by me. I'll just restrict it to "Players have to submit a TCG Card as their own during set submission"

Sure, that's cool. Although this is actually only a consideration for a few bread-and-butter effects, which to be honest, have pretty perfect names anyway (Murder, Lightning Strike, and co.). I'll happily see people try to improve on the names though, if they can!

Will there be cyberpunk block? Because everything needs a cyberpunk version.

 

Are we going for something like the real game design-wise, or going in a different direction like, say, faster-paced?

We can develop the lore as we go. I'm sure cyberpunk isn't out of the question. I believe that we will probably stay with the real game design-wise.

I do know that for certain I want to get a small team to develop a Lore before we start anything. I would like it to be different from MTG lore (obviously). And from there we can develop the actual game play and technical aspects of each set. Different game mechanics or color combinations can be the focuses of each set for example.

Lore-wise, could look to stuff like Heretic and Hexen.

 

Also, 80's-90's JRPGs like Dragon Warrior, Ultima, and Breath of Fire.

 

Could have the first block be a "heroes saves the princess" story while other things happen like Final Fantasy 1.

 

Or, SRPGs like Ogre Battle and Final Fantasy Tactics and make something like a war story-themed SRPG block that emphasizes battle and teamwork (large boards), and utilizes mechanics like Convoke for more flavors. Can also have creatures who can call on other creatures in play to perform link attacks like a Buddyfight.
