Side Deck

Recommended Posts

It really depends on what the common threats are in the game, and what you cannot fit into the Main Deck that works nicely.

Personally, I tend not to use a Side Deck, but generally staple cards are things to consider, like MST, Vanity's, etc.

Right now, you would probably be fine siding cards that can screw BAs and Necloths up, if you end up facing them (the latter is more/less definitive at this point).

Well, the reason I asked, is "YourYugiohChannel" on youtube made a few videos where he suggested certain cards that he thought should be run in a side deck.  His decisions were based on the common decks being run at that time, or were just good to deck in general.  Since I'm not into the Yu-Gi-Oh competitive side (local competitions/official competitions), I really don't know what is generally being run today or how to counter them.  That's kinda why I asked.

To me the ideal Side Deck would contain maybe a Extra Trap Stun or two just incase your opponent is Trap Happy. Also perhaps some Spell Negation or to get rid of them. Like I think that 3 MST for example sometimes bloats a Deck so I would run say 2 and have 1 in the Side.

The top 3 decks, by quite a ways, are Nekroz, Qliphort and Burning Abyss, particularly Nekroz. Mistake is the side card of choice as it hammers Nekroz, so it's worth siding almost anywhere that, basically, isn't Gadgets or Nekroz. Shared Ride, Flying C for Burning Abyss, Spell-Shattering Arrow and other stuff like that, probably a load of stuff I forgot.

I will go with this, however, Flying C isn't as ideal of a solution anymore I don't think. Maxx C is also rather good this format. Book of Eclipse and Book of Moon will cover BA and Nekroz alongside many other random matchups, Light-Imprisoning Mirror or Shadow Imprisoning Mirror depending on your Deck also covers a wide range, and Mischief of the Gnomes does a few things although I'm not 100% sure about its effect on Nekroz.

The ideal Side Deck is mostly floodgates against the top Decks (Vanity's Emptiness, Macro Cosmos), especially if they don't harm you (Soul Drain in Qliphorts, Mistake in Yang Zing).

Also Cursed Seal of the Forbidden Spell because it screws over a lot of Decks.

Vanity's is a main deck card, not a side card. Macro is very good, however, I missed that. D Fissure is also fairly good.

Also important: Main Decking 2 copies of a combo card, and keeping 1 in the Side Deck for certain matchups (e.g. 2 Artifact Scythe mained, 1 sided), means that you haven't balanced your Deck's numbers. Why would you run less than 3 Scythe? Too situational? Then adding a third will reduce your consistency. Probably not worth it.

So is siding 1 copy of a situational searchable card (Satellarknight Rigel). You can search it when you need it. Why wait to side it in?
