Newfound power! Soothslayer Archetype

Tinkerer

Recommended Posts

Hello fine peoples! I am planning to begin a series of Archetypes with the specific purpose of giving a new light to cards that don't really have a home. Examples of these are things like: Terminal World, Convulsion of Nature, Senet Switch, Card Shuffle, etc. This series will be called "Newfound power!" and will be tagged as such.

To begin, I decided to go with a card that I've been playing with a lot lately but unable to comfortably use: Future Visions. Its effect sums up to this, when a monster is Normal Summoned, it is banished until your next Standby Phase.

So without further ado, introducing, the Soothslayers!

Soothslayer Seer

LIGHT ***

Psychic/Effect

When this card is Normal Summoned, you can Special Summon 1 "Soothsayer" monster from your Hand. You must control no monsters to activate and resolve this effect. When this card is banished, you can target 1 "Soothsayer" monster you control. Increase or decrease its level by 3.

Soothslayer Fortune-teller

LIGHT ***

Psychic/Effect

When this card is Normal Summoned, you can add 1 "Future" card from your Deck to your Hand. When this card is banished, you can Normal Summon 1 level 3 monster from your Hand.

1500/700

Soothslayer Prophet

LIGHT ***

Psychic/Effect

When this card is Normal Summoned, you can target 1 level 3 or level 6 banished Psychic-type monster and Special Summon it. When this card is banished, you can target 1 Spell/Trap card on the field. Return it to its owner's Hand.

450/2000

Soothslayer Gypsy

LIGHT ******

Psychic/Effect

When this card is Special Summoned, you can add 1 level 3 "Soothslayer" monster from your Deck to your Hand. If this card is banished, you can Special Summon 1 level 6 "Soothslayer" monster from your Deck. Each effect of "Soothslayer Gypsy" can only be used once per turn.

2300/1800

Oracle of Soothslayers

LIGHT ******

When this card is Special Summoned, you can target 1 monster your opponent controls. Banish it. This effect can only be negated if your opponent banished a number of cards from the top of their Deck equal to the level/rank of the targeted monster. When this card is banished, you can Special Summon 1 of your opponent's banished monsters ignoring its summoning conditions. Each effect of "Soothslayer Gypsy" can only be used once per turn.

You're missing the ATK/DEF on Fortune-teller, but otherwise it is basically a searcher for Future Visions.

Although keep in mind that it will search out Future Fusion and other cards that share the katakana string in its name that Visions has. (FuFu is still banned though).

That being said, all of the monsters here trigger on Normal Summoning; so if you've already NSed and Visions banished your monster; you can't NS again.

You should change the effect to "You can Normal Summon a Level 3 or lower monster from your hand, in addition to your Normal Summon/Set." (although you'll need an OPT clause).

-------

Seer's effect won't trigger, unless Visions banishes it first (which is the point of this whole set).

At first, I was going to say that the effect wouldn't work, but then Visions would get rid of it and thus fulfilling the requirements.

It also can help with R6 plays or something like that once it gets banished.

--------

Although, you only have two cards so can't really say much else until the next batch comes in.

Just keep in mind that Fortune-teller can still search things that shouldn't be. (It can search the Fortune Lady Spells, but also others)

Alrighty! I added a few more monsters to the set!

Fortune-teller and Seer were completely intentional. Seer only combos with Future Visions or a chained effect like Torrential Tribute for its SS effect while I plan to have these cards spam rank 3 and 6.

Fortune-teller is the real glue of the deck. I'm aware of what he searches and built the set accordingly. The other things this can search out are Fortune's Future (the Fortune Lady Pot of Greed), Future Fusion (yeah, kinda annoying...), and Future Glow/Bright Future (which are psychic-type support cards which affect the banished zone). In any case, it isn't a groundbreaking search pool (ignore FuFu), but a bone to Fortune Ladies and Banish Psychics. Also, I kinda wanted its banish effect to work during either player's turn if there's a more appropriate way to word that.
