Dark Magician of Origin

1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner Spellcaster-Type monsters
When this card is Synchro Summoned: You can target 1 Spell Card in your Graveyard and 1 card on your side of the field; return them to the hand. You can target 1 Spellcaster-Type monster in your Graveyard: Shuffle it into the Deck, and if you do, draw 1 card. You can only use each effect of "Dark Magician of Origin" once per turn.

Gaining a Spell from the Grave is excellent, correlating that to the Synchro Summon is a good choice. Returning a card you control to your hand can be helpful, for the same reasons that "Giant Trunade" are banned. Are the two dependent on each other? Because you can target 1 Spell in your grave and 1 card you control, but does one not return without the other? It would probably be more useful if it returned as many targets as possible. The second effect with the hard OPT is fine and I think overall it is a good card.

Mathematician = This. This is a very nice card for Shaddolls, and its interactions with the Fusions could push the Deck a little. Otherwise, I can't see it being used very much, but one day a Deck will come along...

 

This could be used for Synchro Fusionist shenanigans maybe.

The first effect happens simultaneously, which means if the effect is negated neither is returned to the hand. Returning a card from the field to the hand is meant as a semi-cost thing, but you could, for example, return a useless COH or Tenki.

Well, DM.dek is starting to come along pretty nicely, getting a bunch of support from Eternal Soul, Legion the Fiend Jester and some more stuff, so that could become pretty interesting.

This card is just broken with summoner monk, I like it a lot though. With monk you can go: monk-discard anything- special a level 4 tuner-set any spell or trap-special this guy-return the card you set and return the spell you discared-then return monk with 2nd effect. You pulled out a strong monster, kept card advantage, and thats a very easy combo to pull off.

How exactly is it broken?

Keep in mind that you're going to say that, at least elaborate on why that is so.

 

Remember, you're in Advanced Cards, so you are expected to give some reasoning for that claim.

While this can retrieve stuff for Summoner Monk to discard again, it only works during the initial Synchro Summon.

It cannot do so once per turn.

 

Second effect is nice for recycling dead Spellcasters that either cannot be revived due to certain clauses, or some other things.

That, or recycle stuff in Dolls. Although, last time I checked, making Level 8s wasn't exactly an ideal play for them; unless they go Tempest + Falco into this or something.

 

I would say Majespecters could use it to retrieve dead members that got used to Xyz and stuff, but like Dolls, Level isn't ideal for them + Synchro is out of the question a lot of the time.

 

Indeed though, Dark Magician has been getting a bit of support lately; so it might work for them.

However, I don't think they can afford to go the Synchro route into this, but nothing is stopping them from teching in a few Tuners and all that, so they have access to such an option.
