ITT: The TCG trolls [Minerva, the Exalted Lightsworn]

Recommended Posts

Literally this turn irl tournaments into "WHO HAS MINERVA?"

Are you having a laugh?

Sure, the Lightsworn community get funked by this, but the tournament community gets a much bigger incentive and as a result gets bigger and more exciting tournaments. And Konami would definitely prioritise the tournament community because it's so much more likely for the tournament community to be seriously affected. For all the crap people say almost nobody is ACTUALLY going to quit as a result of this, whereas if the difference was between an Ascension Sky Dragon or a Minerva I would make serious considerations if it came to travelling to Euros when it's in, say, Spain.

Obstinate: "stubbornly refusing to change one's opinion or chosen course of action, despite attempts to persuade one to do so."

Faith: "complete trust or confidence in someone or something; strong belief in God or in the doctrines of a religion, based on spiritual apprehension rather than proof."

I'd love for it to be in WSP2 as much as you, but precedent sides with that not being the case.

And I say that precedent can go fornicate itself.  It's going to be a timed limited release and then we see it in WSP2's spoiler list.  Then we all cheer.

Sorry but "lmao" is the only thing that comes to my mouth right now. As I told you multiple times, if you're this bothered by the seperation of OCG and TCG, quit playing.

Considering I tried to get back into this game and haven't succeeded, telling me to quit playing doesn't mean much. And if you are going to say I don't play therefore it doesn't affect me, this was one of the few decks I had fun with every now and again. Also the fact it's still a PR nightmare.

Also, it's not as if we're being treated that badly. Yeah, we miss out on a couple of largely irrelevant JUMP and prize cards and get a bit of a delay on a mediocre set, but it's not as if we haven't been getting TCG exclusives for waaaay longer than the OCG have been getting exclusives so I don't think much of that point. We also have a bunch of better things in Europe such as MUCH better event coverage and (imo) slightly more logical rulings.

If you're not playing the game, why talk as if it's affecting you in any shape or form? I'm all in for discussion, but if someone barges into a thread with obvious case of butthurt, then it's hard to reason with them.

This btw.

Also, is it really a PR nightmare? Casuals on YCM are complaining, I think it's great and so does everyone I talked to who actually plays this game regularly and regularly has chances of actually winning Minervas etc etc.

Like I say, I understand the frustration if you're one of the handful of people who plays the game IRL and actually wants to build Lightsworn or Infernoid (or, I guess, Clownblade if Chain really does get banned), but they really are the only group who should be seriously unhappy. Any way to please one part of the community has a large chance of disappointing another.

How many unhappy Lightsworn or Infernoid players are there? Couple hundred thousand or so? Why should only high level players have access to certain cards? Certain cards nigh required to run decks optimally?

Let's start with the fact this card is not needed to run Infernoids optimally, that's one.

Let me state it again: you apparently don't play this game, so don't act like Joanne d'Arc who's suffering for every single LS player out there. I wonder if you were this passionate about Norden being printed in a tin, which was a brilliant move by Konami, and that will please way more people than this will displease. I assume you didn't because heaven forbid you acknowledge Konami is not satan himself right?

surely not

I mean, I'd argue that high level players deserve access to certain cards because they've put the most time, effort and money into the game and this is their reward. I don't really think anyone is entitled to have access to any card, after all if Minerva had never existed in the first place Lightsworn players would be no better off but would still be complaining. It's not a powerful enough card to be a complete game-changer, it's not as if having a Minerva drastically increases your chances of doing well in the way that having a Stratos does, it's just something that would have benefitted a handful of decks slightly.

Then those cards should be exclusive prize cards that serve no gameplay value. Or cash prizes. Or something other than screwing people out of a card that was anticipated. Who cares if it's not as relevant enough to change the metagame, it's still a very bad decision and pissing off a larger amount of people to please a small minority who are occasionally supported by stores feels wrong with me. It feels like Konami constantly throws the middle finger. Even if the benefit is only slight, it should not be locked behind a barrier of winning a YCS or shelling out extreme money.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind if there was say, a common or rare Minerva in a set, and then a Super and Ultra for winning a YCS. The card is available to all and the YCS versions are still worth something

Well, as I've said before the high-level community is important because they create the demand for high-end cards which encourages people to buy product.

We're not going to agree on this because we're coming from fundamentally different angles - I don't really give a sheet about whether I can use Minerva and you clearly do, and I can understand the frustration of people who want to be able to use certain cards, but as someone who doesn't really care what he's playing as long as it's successful and relatively fun I really don't care what selection of cards we get. All it is to me is a chance to make a whole lot more money from doing well at a major event than you would have been able to previously.

Are you having a laugh?

I was making a bad attempt at being unserious, if that counts. This is YCM, not TMZ. I feel like the difference would help people at times

Anywho, my big beef with this is mainly Minerva Prize + Lavalval Chain ban. If Chain stays, Minerva is irrelavnt and therefore I could give less of one. However, Chain leaving puts Minerva in the spotlight, which is a huge problem with Clownblade Seraph in the mix. If y'all suddenly are insisting Chain won't go, I'll believe ya, but if it happens, here we go

Needs no basis. Just strong believing. I did say I have obstinate faith in it after all.

Do you know something we don't?

It's a dick move by Konami surely.

But as everyone says it's not really that big a deal in the long run.

Did people complain when Nekroz of Brionac were 100-150 dollars apiece or whatever?  Yeah.

But you either didn't play Nekroz or sucked it up and paid out your life savings.  It's called dealing with it.

And it's not like Lightsworns were ever in a millions years going to be tier 1 just because of Minerva.  It's a great card sure, but in all honesty it's literally Card Trooper that can maybe net you some free draws and punishes it's destruction.  Card trooper doesn't punish it's destruction, in the same way, but it still lets you get a draw and doesn't waste 2 level 4 lightsworns that you could have used for something else besides Sackmoar.card

Don't blow this out of proportion.  It's not the end of the world.  People are just jabroniing because a classic budget friendly-ish deck is getting something they can't have, or at least can't have cheap.

A 3-of in the best deck being $120 isn't the same as a 1-of in the Extra Deck of a lot of tier 2 decks being $1000+. This isn't about LS at this point, it's about Konami analraping the playerbase yet again with a highly playable card as a prize with no reprint in sight for the next 5 years, if they wait as long as they have for the rest of the YCS promos.

This is coming from someone who is buying a Minerva at Toronto, owns a Giant Hand and plays on mats that are worth more than most people's collections.

This kind of sheet still needs to stop.

On the one hand, I think it's a good thing that there's now decent material incentive to play the game competitively compared to the financial investment that requires.

On the other hand, it's still a not exactly the smartest choice Konami could make for the game. Better than with Crush Card sure, but still a little stupid in that whilst being a card with competitive uses, it's also a card with a lot of secondary appeal. Kinda like Giant Hand was. Especially when there won't be a reprint of the card even at a low rarity.

How much more simple this situation could be if Konami could actually offer prize money.

1) That was just an example of people jabroniing and then eventually just coming to accept it.  It's obviously not on the same scale.  But eventually both situations will reach the same outcome.

2) I'm glad you have money.  Thanks for pointing that out

3) Indeed it does.  Noticed how I opened my comment with "A dick move by Konami surely"

All I'm saying is that people need to stop complaining about it and not doing anything about it.  You can sit on your but an jabroni to your friends all day, but it won't change anything.  Konami doesn't give a sheet until it directly affects their company.  Is it the end of the world if Minerva is 1000 dollars and therefore relatively unplayable to the common masses who are generally the only ones who actually play lightsworn?  funk no.  Even if Minerva has applications outside of Lightsworn, it doesn't really matter in the end.  There are several other options for Minerva, like the aforementioned Card Trooper, which does basically the same job with 100% less setup.  In fact that's probably why Konami chose this card as the prize card: cuz it doesn't do anything for any deck that other options can't already do.

If you (as in anyone reading this) want this prize card bullshit to stop, then do something about it.  Write all the angry letters your want and maybe even manage a boycott of some events or something.  You never know until you try, you might find that others might have the same mindset and the willingness to follow someone who actually takes the initiative.

If you don't have the motivation to do something like that, then stop empty jabroniing.  It does nothing except annoy those around you who don't care as much as you, because if you are said person who does nothing but empty jabroniing, you are just going to accept it anyway.

No one said you shouldn't be mad.  No one said this doesn't suck for those budget players looking to finally run Minerva.  But unless you are planning to do something about it, stop acting like the game is self destructing and just move about your day.
