Remind me how many times this happened already (AMA)

Non-anime: Rush Hour (1st) or IP Man.

Basically Asian martial arts movies.

Anime: A good chunk of the Pokémon ones; especially 5th and 10th (and 1st).

Probably 5th one (eventually I would like to watch them all in Japanese [subbed], because some of the cuts in the English version upset me)

I don't really watch movies a lot nowadays to be honest, so list is rather small now.

Don't particularly care for really gushy romance movies and stuff like that, which a lot of guys in college over here seem to like.

God forbid people be social amiright?

Anyway, on topic. What is your favorite meal you have ever had?

For one particular occasion, don't think I have just one, but I know my favorite dishes are ones at Japanese restaurants / buffets where I can eat food I normally don't get to eat on a regular basis. In the latter case, I usually end up eating several plates + being stuffed for a good while (at least I make the most of the $20-30 price tag for me eating there).

One of them is torikatsu (deep-fried chicken) with sashimi, miso and a lot of other things.

I can still eat chicken katsu on weekends, although as plate lunch (see below), but it's not too bad.

Essentially, a good chunk of my favorite meals generally include stuff that I don't get to eat often, due to price tags on them domestically.

Can't have sashimi because they're about $15-20/fillet and the local alternative (ahi poke) is about $12/lb (I tend to eat through that rather quickly).

Speaking of food...

Any good Hawaiian dishes you recommend? I really need to try that spam musubi sometime...

Laulau (pork covered with ti leaves) is really good, although you will need to remove the fat inside of it.

I usually tend to keep a little fat for flavor (a lot of local guys eat the thing whole, fat and all)

There's also poi (pounded taro) and lomi salmon (tomato, salmon, onion for the most part) for complementary dishes.

Both of them aren't too bad, although poi might be a bit awkward. (Both are served cold though)

If you like sashimi, ahi poke* also tastes pretty good.

You have the option of adding more seasoning to it, and basically it's cubed ahi fillet.

Some of our choices include adding kimchee, furikake, wasabi and a lot of other things.

* pronounced the same as Pokémon (minus the last part, of course)

------

There's also the plate lunch, which essentially contains your main course (entrée), rice, mac salad (or greens if you want), along with some other side dishes.

Also variation with mixed, if you want 2 entrée choices. (It's a lot more expensive + bigger, but tastes good, depending on where you go)

------

Basically, there's a lot of local foods you can try down here.

Can't really recommend one particular food, but they exist.

(A lot of our cuisine has traits from a lot of Asian cultures, so there's that to consider)

Yeah, I'm not much of a fat person. The texture, mainly, tends to gum up my teeth. I mean, I'm fine with things cooked with it, but I like to take it off afterward. In my opinion, it's already added the flavor. XD

I've never had taro, so I can't say how I'd react to poi. Salmon's pretty good, though I didn't like it sun-dried when I tried it once. Could have been made weirdly though, idk.

Tbh I've never had sashimi and I really want to try it sometime.

In fact I haven't had any of the stuff you're recommending, and I really need to get on that sometime. It's hard though, finding places that sell that stuff. I mean, some of the stuff (like spam musubi) I could probably make myself, but others I'd definitely need an expert to make it for me.

The plate lunch sounds nummy though. I love that, entrées + side dishes. My parents like to just make meat, meat, and more meat, but I really like having a little variety when I eat.

For spam musubi, you just need a piece of nori, a slice of spam (any flavor will do; or you can soak the regular kind in sauce or whatever you want), obviously rice and a musubi mold (with a press).

Place mold on nori, fill said mold 1/2 to 2/3rds up, then place spam slice on top.

Press rice/spam down as you pull the mold up.

Fold nori around the rice/spam, and seal nori with water.

You can also use seran wrap to force the musubi to keep its texture.

(I generally use half a sheet for one, but there are bigger ones if you want to use the whole sheet and do two)

I didn't see yours when writing last one, but I will answer it now.

Have you had to deal with any outstanding health issues, growing up?

As far as I remember, I haven't had any issues, which is a good thing.

If I did, it would really suck.

I get my recommended exercise, eat what I'm supposed to and body weight/height is about where it should be.

Thankfully I'm not like one of my cousins, who is indeed obese due to health choices she makes (massive junk food and stuff; including instant ramen).

What sort of exercise do you do?

Basically Japanese martial arts stuff on weekends. (About 2-3 hours/day)

I've probably mentioned this part in passing within other subjects (especially with my volunteer job).

Then, there's a lot of walking during college semesters (navigate around campus, especially with multiple 3-4 story buildings, then walk home after I get off the bus after school)

Although, I will have access to the recreation center at university starting tomorrow, so I can also use the exercise machines there if I wish during breaks.

I'll probably stick to the treadmill; there are weight machines, but I'd rather not use them.
