ihop
I'm not gonna provide a link because there are so many different articles and none of them tell the full story because it's constantly moving. Just google "europe refugee crisis" if you need to know more. tl;dr, hundreds of thousands of refugees coming mainly from Syria, countries like Hungary and Slovakia don't want them, Germany said they'll take them all but then said "wait no that's way too many", the EU is trying to get people to take their fair share with a limited degree of success and Britain, which was heavily responsible for starting the war in the first place, is taking very few indeed. Spinny
My take on the entire situation is that you really need to focus on solving the crisis in Syria, because otherwise the amount of refugees will become bigger and bigger. I understand that you need to save people in trouble, but I, personally, feel we are jumbling up priorities here. Just my opinion anyway, if anything is wrong just state it kindly pls, I admit I don't actually know much on the subject.
Aerion Brightflame
The problem is a lot of countries can't do a lot. Germany can because they need workers; They have an ageing population, thus an influx of labour is great for the economy. For now at least. But the problem for a lot of other countries is that there are just too many refugees. Because I imagine it's not just thousands, but hundreds of thousands. Eventually it'll start to become millions, because frankly who wants to live in Northern Africa? It's not a safe place to live, it's not a pleasant place to live. It's war torn, poverty ridden, and no realistic hope of any of that changing. It's just a very hard problem to solve, because goverments can't outright accept them due to tensions currently in there home countries, various issues that make housing them hard, and the fact that there will be a near endless tide of people coming. It's tragic, but that's what has happened. And it's kinda a little too late for the problems in that region to the world to be fixed by Western Influence. Bush and Blair saw to that. Flash Flyer - Sakura
Right now, I would say that we should deal with the crises in the Middle East / N. Africa, meaning that we eradicate ISIS and whatever terror groups are running rampant in that region of the world. Refugees should have less of a reason to find shelter in Europe if their home borders are safer to live in, however given how things are at the moment, I do not foresee that part of the world to return to normal for a very long time. I wouldn't blame people for ditching the place; it's certainly become a warzone. As much as I'd suggest the other EU nations to at least try to take in the refugees so Germany doesn't end up taking the brunt of them, it's understandable that resources are limited especially among their own people. Indeed, they (refugees) are coming in by the thousands every day. Heck, even the German government has locked its borders for a while, despite pledging to take in a million of them. I know for certain that east European nations don't like the idea of having to take refugees in.Hungary/Serbia locked off their borders, and certainly the tensions between their police force and the refugees are already at a high. Refugees just want to pass through the country, and move on to the better countries. I'm sure few of them actually want to stay in Hungary. Then, we have that incident off the Greek coast where refugees were sabotaged.Whether or not it was the Greek coast guard or someone else is still unknown; well, at least on my end. It's sad that these things happen, but what do you expect the refugees to do?Because of the crap in their own regions, they want to get away from the violence, lest they end up being killed or subjected to extremist rule under ISIS or whatever. I'm not really in a position to say what Europe as a whole should do about the refugee surge, given my geographical location from all this (a good +7K miles). However, I will say that something needs to be done about the situation itself; pretty much, get other countries beside Germany, Britain and France to take some in. Either that, or we get other countries outside of Europe to take refugees, if the other EU nations aren't willing to do more.Though, the question is, whether or not they'll accept them. I'm aware that Canada and the United States are being asked to take in more refugees. I know for certain that the US pledged to take 10,000, but even one of our officials was against the idea on the grounds that it'd allow potential terrorists. Then again, we have Trump raising shitstorms about sealing the border from Mexico. I can only imagine how much crap he'd make about letting refugees in*. * just so we're clear, I don't really care for him. -------------There's my two cents on the matter, as someone who lives in the Pacific, far away from this. goodfusion
What saddens me most is there are people whining about the refugees while they have their mansions and second homes. I hate the way some people are treating the refugees, almost as if they're not people.
Kyng
If it wasn't already obvious I think we can all agree that we wish the refugees the best fortune in this hard time. Harsh times upon them, I am glad that there are people willing to help. It's weird, while simultaneously the sheer fact these poor people having to flee their homeland is a reason to lose faith in humanity, those nations coming to their aid and sheltering those who they have are a reason to gain faith in humanity.
