During the End Phase of the turn this card was activated, add "Spellbook" Spell Cards from your Deck to your hand, except "Spellbook of Judgment", up to the number of Spell Cards activated after this card's resolution, then, you can Special Summon from your Deck 1 Spellcaster-Type monster whose Level is less than or equal to the number of cards added to your hand by this effect. You can only activate 1 "Spellbook of Judgment" per turn.

During the End Phase of the turn this card was activated, add "Spellbook" Spell Cards from your Graveyard to your hand, except "Spellbook of Judgment", up to the number of "Spellbook" Spell Cards activated after this card's resolution (max. 2), then, you can Special Summon from your Deck 1 Spellcaster-Type monster whose Level is less than or equal to the number of cards added to your hand by this effect. Three changes

1) Adds from Grave to hand, instead of from deck, so it maintains your game-state instead of rapidly advancing it
2) Max. 2, stops the Jowgen-Kycoo builds, targets are limited, can go +1 at best?
3) Only counts spellbook spells so setting it on the opponents turn won't be that great unless you're planning to get Fate

Personally think it could come back as is, but that's likely an unpopular notion, so here goes.

If you can only add a max. of 2, then you can only Special Summon a Level 1 or 2 monster, which is very low in Spellbook Decks, bar Spellbook Magician of Prophecy.

I don't think this card can return, it was  made to be broken as hell, but any errata on it will absolutely destroy it

You do realize that Maiden Books was the best deck OCG side in march right?

Three routes I see that would at least make this card escape the realm of our J&OP section:

  1. The original effect, but with a once per DUEL clause on the whole card?
  2. Drop the Summon effect entirely.
  3. Restrain the add to +2 cards, and base the Level of the Summon of the number of Spells activated instead.

Neither of these do anything. Once per duel is honestly just bad design in cards like this, since it doesn't prevent them from activating the first (and game-winning) copy at all.

This card isn't broken for summoning a monster. It is broken for giving you a +however much you want.

Those +'s have to be meaningful though, and currently only Fate and the monster this Summons turns those pluses into a meta-level threat.

Outside of that, it provides discard fodder for Phoenix Wing Wind Blast and friends, it helps you drop Priestess more easily, and it makes World's nuke easier to trigger.

And the suggested errate fixes that :)
