Aix
Is hypocrisy a valid argument to make against someone's point? A hypocrite is perfectly capable of a valid point or observation, aren't they?
Trebuchet MS
I feel that hypocrisy is being used interchangeably with self-contradiction.
Kyng
Hey, takes one to know one! Nah but seriously, who better to criticise one than one in, or having been in their scenario>
Thar
If a smoker told you not to smoke, are they hypocrites? Yes, but at least they're humble enough to admit it. They know it'll ruin your life if you start, so not taking them seriously because they're hypocrites is downright idiotic.
Makο
As much as I hate the "Do as I say, not as I do" mentality, it does have some valid applications in certain things.
Simping For Hina
Attack the argument, not the person who is making it.
Agro
Calling someone a hypocrite isn't an argument. It's an admission.
LordCowCowCowCowCowCowCowCow
Honestly I'll be the first to say I really hate hypocrisy. But usually only when the hypocrite is being self-righteous and such. (For instance attacking someone for racism while being racist themselves). However hypocrisy is rarely a valid argument against an argument.Though nothing wrong with pointing out the hypocrisy either. Especially as I said when the person is claiming some kind of moral high ground, if only because that sheet's annoying. As long as you don't claim that's the reason for them being wrong. epicmemesbro
Some people confuse hypocrisy with conditional arguments. Like if someone is against eating meat unless there is nothing else they can eat.
a bad post
It depends on the situation, like the example with the smoker is someone using their past experiences to tell you something is a bad idea. However someone who swears constantly telling you not to swear is a case in which you would call out the hypocrisy.
