The Phantom Knights of Rusted Gauntlet

DARK ****

Warrior/Effect

You can Special Summon this card from your Hand by discarding 1 card. If you do, this card becomes level 3. You can banish this card from your Graveyard to Special Summon 1 banished "The Phantom Knights" monster except "The Phantom Knights of Rusted Gauntlet". When that monster leaves the field, banish it.

Hello, fine peoples! So I've been fooling around with the phantom knights cards and just decided to make one that covers their consistency issues. As always, CnC appreciated!

Well it is another Silent Boots, not that it would not be a nice addition to the deck, however you do realize it's Graveyard Effect is a (+2), though all other Phantom Knights so far only generate one card from the Graveyard, right ?

Good point. But, the Knights NEED a way to banish-recycle besides D.D.R. (which appears to be one of the best non-archetypal cards for them). In any case, I changed the effect to match the Spell/Trap SS-clause (banish the monster when it leaves the field) so that you can't reliably use the newly summoned monster for anything but an XYZ material. If you have a better idea for a restriction, though, I'm all ears.

If it would be banished (like by the spells/traps you would still just xyz) though I honestly do not see a point in going to much on about a little plus here and there, for now.

You said D.D.R. would be one of their best way of recycling, would the best (current) ways to recycle not be Burial from Another Dimension and Doomsday Horror ?

If you want to balance it a bit more I would suggest you either just send the banished card to the grave and allow the player to send the phantom spells/traps as well or you just say it cannot be used as Xyz material during this turn (while removing the banishing clause, so you would have to either protect that monster until a later turn or use a monster like robe or helmet, which are still useful if not used as Xyz Material, considering one can already do that with helmet and wings/sword).

But again their best kind of recycling right now would be doomsday horror (and maybe necroface, though I did not test it as it does not create advantage and is as easy to use as doomsday horror).

If you want to write another phantom knight card I would suggest it would either recycle spells/traps and/or being a rank 4 for the archtype.

Then again nice work, this would definitely make them stronger and balance the number of level 3s and 4s to be equal.

In terms of getting effects to activate again, yeah you're right. I think I just like DDR because it gives immediate field presence and also provides some setup. Tbh, I completely forgot about Doomsday Horror but that can be played around pretty easily. They all have their uses though... Thanks again!

One can play around Doomsday Horror, however most times you would just crash it to get every single banished phantom knight back into the graveyard, it is surprising that I never was in a situation in which I would even consider using it as xyz material, when I had the chance to, oh and by th way doomsday horror trigger upon ANY destruction is not a hard to resolve as it could get.
