[Serious] My CC Lazyness

Recommended Posts

When I first joined, and even for a month after that, I was eager to review everyone's cards. Now, I mostly lurk on other people's cards. Sometimes I'm aroused from my lazyness when the people get desperate for reviews, but...I just don't seem to.

I don't want to just leave the cards, but I always seem to. I feel CC getting less and less reviews, and Enguin is showing even reps aren't as wanted anymore. I want to do SOMETHING.

Is there any way I can fix this?

I've tried giving incentives for people to review card threads, but yeah I'm going to admit that CC has slowly died down since the olden days where it was bustling.

Though, I rep people who give proper comments on stuff I make (which is getting rarer as my coursework slowly increases (even during breaks)).

Same goes with reviewing other people's cards; I'll get to them if I have time (and know what they're trying to do).

Otherwise, I'll look them over and all.

I don't know; probably put cards that are deemed good up in some sort of Hall of Fame.

If memory serves me, an attempt was made in the past, but later flopped.

However, maybe this time will be different.

I get quite annoyed at myself not being able to review cards that I see posted. I look at topics posted with 0 replies and 60 views and I go in to try and make some sort of contribution, but I find myself at a loss for what to say. If a card is made that is well balanced and reasonably usable, there isn't any critique to give.

Cards that are shite, they'll draw in dozens of people, because everyone like me who goes around viewing all the threads in silence finds it far easier to criticise poor design than to praise the good. It's just the way things are. I'd have thought, especially in sets, that offering reps for even a word on some of the multiple cards would see more success than it has for me.

I'd much rather have people post some sort of comment than repping the post with the cards in or whatever. While reps are nice and all they don't particularly help me in the creation of cards. My Convulsion of Nature thing, for example, got 4 likes and 2 comments (one of which was essentially a rep in post form). I appreciate that the people repping may just like the cards and not have anything to add to them, but I'd honestly much rather they make one criticism or one suggestion for one card (of 9 in that set) than like the post.

Still I can't complain much when I'm guilty of the same. Just not enjoyable to put effort into a thing and then have nobody say a word on it. Well I suppose enjoyable isn't the right word there, as I do enjoy making the stuff regardless of whether it garners comments or not, but I can't think of any other way of describing the disappointment of hitting 100 views and 0 comments. Equally disappointing to see people putting obviously a lot of time into making things, but not knowing how to adequately critique the stuff, and contributing further to the problem.

Lastly just to throw some stats at this, my 4 recently created threads in multiples have had 509 cumulative views in the 2-4 days respectively they've been up. From the 509 views, there's been 23 replies. Of that 23, 14 were me. So that's 9 comments from 509 views. All of these threads are incentivized with the promise of reps for comments. Last night I offered 2 reps per comment on a couple of the threads, resulting in 1 comment. And that from the mod of CC.

So it's not great at the moment in conclusion.

A month ago, I did a week where I reviewed every thread that appeared. It was so much effort coming up for reviews of cards which were just...okay. But I did it, and I was satisfied. I wish I could be like that all the time....

That is a part of the problem as well, is the standard of cards is just adequate. I rarely see something that makes me think, wow, this is great. I also rarely see something that makes me go, what the fuck this is horrendous. The problem stems from the fact that these 2 cases are the ones where it's easiest to comment.

Most of the time I'll click the thread, look at the card and think, alright, that's a card. And then leave. And you can't fix that, because it's not a problem in a regular sense, it's just a thing that tends to occur. Even then though, people don't necessarily give enough of a fuck to comment on obviously broken things.

I posted a thread in AC today with a card that searches 2 Exodia pieces for free. Took 3 hours for anyone to say anything, and it was Armz who eventually did it, one of the regular posters in there. Seems like there are no lurkers with accounts, just lurking guests browsing the forum. I know for a fact if I had posted that card back 2 or 3 years ago, there'd have been a lot more said and a lot quicker. Nobody cares about the section outside of maybe 10-20 people. It's a shame.
