Accordion Attack
Black Smoke Demon[Monster/Effect] Fiend/Dark[LV4] 0/2400If this card is Normal or Flip Summoned: Change this card to Defense Position. Set cards you control cannot be targeted by, or destroyed by, card effects. Monsters your opponent controls cannot target monsters you control for attacks, except this one. The Nyx Avatar
The first thing that came to mind when I saw the name was the Smoke Monster from Lost. Anywho: An effect that helps put it in DEF with 2400 DEF, which may seem to push it. But I have seen other monsters with this much DEF (if not more) that did more, so it seems fair. With it face-up on the field, you have less worry of losing your backrow, so Solemn Notice stays safe. It's a nice protection, but the card's not impenetrable, so it seems fair. Sleepy
Usually, Level 4 or lower monsters with a DEF past around 2200 (example of 2200 DEF: Gear Golem the Moving Fortress), would need an effect that's more of a drawback (Big Shield Gardna's 2600 DEF forces itself to Attack Position after being attacked, or Destiny HERO Defender makes your opponent draw 2 cards per turn for being there with its 2700 DEF, etc). However, in this day and age, I think it is merely an outdated standard. We commonly see Monarchs with a 2400 DEF monster coming out of the Graveyard every turn, and the ATK of monsters is often from 2400 to 3000+ depending on what decks you see around, plus removal effects. So I personally think 2400 DEF is ok. It breaks the mold, but I like that it does. The attack lock it creates in multiples is cute too. As for my suggestions. The position changing effect I think should be a "you can" effect. I mean, what if I want it in Attack Position because I have Shield & Sword or Inverse Universe about to activate? It'd be fine being an option. However, I think its protection effect, which is its main thing, can be a problem. It is a continuous effect so you could set a full line of backrow and Call of the Haunted into this card would protect a bit too much. I'm not sure I'm a fan of that.I really like that same effect when it comes to protecting face-down monsters though, that side of its potential use would be creative....
