Rank-Up Magic Quick Chaos

Target 1 "Number" Xyz Monster you control, except a "Number C" monster; Special Summon from your Extra Deck, 1 "Number C" monster with the same number in its name as that target, but 1 Rank higher, by using it as the Xyz Material. (This Special Summon is treated as an Xyz Summon. Xyz Materials attached to that target also become Xyz Materials on the Summoned monster.)

 

This card's a gimmick, but I can't believe I never see it at all. It's basically Assault Mode Activate for Xyz Monsters, but without the downsides of being a Trap.

I used to use it back in my RL Budgetopia Deck to attack with basic Utopia, then upgrade it into Victory to attack again, or to just dodge a nasty effect my ZWs couldn't deal with.

It was alright 37 years ago when rank up was a fun casual deck.

 

Either helped you deal AS MUCH AT 6000 DAMAGE IN ONE TURN or dodged BROKEN CARDS like SILENT HONOR ARC

I used to use it in my Gogogo RUM Deck, because it was just excellent for either dodging removal or for doing tons of damage during the Battle Phase, especially with 101.

 

It's just sort of okay, though. RUM - Limited Barian's Force, while not a Quick Play, is usually just better because you don't have to use it on a specific Xyz monster. You can turn any Rank 4 into whatever Rank 5 CNo. you want/need for the situation. While many of them do want their non-C form as Material, C69, C101, and C103 don't really care, and C104 is still an MST with a 3000 body even without No.104 underneath.

 

And C80 gets no benefit whatsoever from using a Quick-Play RUM.

 

That said, if I was using a Utopia focus, I would definitely run this.

I just remembered why I hated this thing...They have failed to include "CXyz" monsters.

 

Also, unlike Assault Mode, it can't be searched easily. (Assault Mode can be searched with Assault Beast who can be searched by Tenki and Zoodiac Broadbull whereas this can only be searched by a really situational effect of Raidraptor- Tribute Lanius).

Assault Mode Activate isn't seeing play either, and probably wouldn't see play as a Spell either :V

 

I've said it elsewhere, but IMO Rank-Ups are p inherently flawed as cards due to various factors I'm not going to go into right now and they inherently cannot have the flexibility that is XYZ's greatest advantage

And it's not like it was used all that often when it wasn't totally bad either. In Current Day there's really no useful applications for a Rank-Up at all, bar Overrated XYZ Blackwings.dek, which was literally designed to have few real wincons without a Rank-Up, and which can't use Quick Chaos efficiently.

It's a fun card. It being a Quick-play gives it a decent edge outside of getting Solemn'd to escape your cards.

Especially enjoying Xyz Summoning in Heraldic Beasts focused around Rank-Ups. The Link era is approaching so it's always nice that Ragna, and Silent Arc have self-revive effects, and C69 can descend back from the rainbows carried by Unicorns.

 

This card's battle phase shenanigans are the only risky bit about it, and that's not really an issue...

What ultimately makes this card age is the fact it's just for Numbers. Unless down the road they use the anime to bring back legacy support like they did in Arc V for Blackwings and Resonators, this almost pretty much has all the targets it will have minus the dozen or so ones we are yet to get that Konami might give us in another decade.
