A new LIGHT Xyz! (Generic)

I made a new LIGHT Xyz monster. This one and the WATER Synchro will be my first entries into the AGM if I get accepted. Anyway, here it is:

This card cannot be destroyed by a DARK monster. Once per turn, you can detach 1 Overlay Unit from this card, Special Summon 1 LIGHT monster from your hand or GY. If this card is targeted for an attack or card effect while it has no Overlay Units, you can discard 1 card, then target 1 LIGHT monster in your Deck, and if you do, add that target to your hand. You can only use this effect of "Nociel, the Heavenly Seraph of Love" once per turn.

 

I figured it should be generic enough that any kind of LIGHT archetype could easily tech this card. I think it should do pretty well to work it into a good LIGHT deck...

OCG is a off, but the most notable is that "Overlay units" are actually Xyz Materials. 

 

So, this card is pretty broken. For starters it's a hate card. Typically these kind of effects aren't necessary, so I would avoid them, especially when they conflict with the card's effect that already protects it enough. That isn't the main problem though. It's a Generic Xyz that can search Honest before it would be attacked. Basically makes it a better Utopia. The only thing stopping that from being even more amazing is that it has to have no materials, which is strange considering how well the first effect synergizes with Honest. This isn't necessary either. This would be put in Decks like Counter Fairies, Lightsworns, and Metaphys (If they really wanted, heck even Decks that just happen to be able to Xyz Summon because why not. Those kinds of Decks don't really need a generic Xyz that they can plus off of to this degree.

I've always called Xyz Materials Overlay Units because that's what they are in the anime... Anyway, I had no Idea it was so broken! What should I do to nerf it?

(For card writing, you use Xyz Material, or just material in this case by Series 10 PSCT)

 

Well, I'd change the no material effect to something that doesn't search; or just invert the thing so it detaches to search (similar to Gear Gigant X) and then floating if it dies while Xyz Materials are on it.

At the time of writing, you have stuff like Magibullets, Counter Fairies, LS (to some extent) that can abuse this for summoning from the Deck. There are others, but I do not have time to actively look at LIGHT Rank 4 spam ('tellars are another option, so keep this in mind). Yeah, you can also search Honest if you really want to, but that's it. Going off Counter Fairies, it just helps them grab Minerva, Artemis, Ariadne, etc without issues; especially if you revive this later. 

 

Also yes, the anti-DARK thing. I get the symbolism, but yeah, it just walls one of the most common Attributes in existence while spamming; not cool.

Archetype exists because supporting all one thousand one hundred Light monsters is a bad idea. Basically, you either make your card less generic, or you better make sure it's not breaking anything. Forget searching Honest, it searches Ghost Ogre. I would rework the entire concept.

 

I wouldn't say it's a 'hate card', but basically an effect like the anti-dark one it has would only be useful for flavor. Which is okay. In moderation.

 

You don't target cards in your Deck. And you gotta specify that the first effect prevents destruction by battle. (Unless it's battle and card effects - in which case you gotta specify that.)
