When posting a card, it is valid to post them as "Written Cards" as well. These are just the info of the card like for example:
Pot of Greed
[Spell Card]
Draw 2 cards.

Though for regular card-making with usage of the template in the front place is I'd say the most common way. You said you already know how to use it, and were asking about the art of the cards specifically.

Well most people find them online and crop them into size, some know how to edit things pretty good.
It is not very common but some members here do tend to often use drawings they made themvelves.

I don't always do it but I can sometimes make a card and draw something for its art, in my case I color it with markers. Here's a drawing that's not complete for instance:
