Solemn Judgment = dead this format

Recommended Posts

Solemn is about as dead as DAD.

And how dead is DAD?

Fading, that's how dead it is.

Yes, Solemn is actually going to fade.

I think it will return at one time, not sure.

But it will see less and less play.

Synchros made life points much more important, which is, in my opinion, a huge improvement to this game.

Solemn is going to die slowly. Believe me, it is.

Think back to a couple of formats ago when Solemn Judgment wasn't practically a staple. If and when the game is fixed, Solemn Judgment will return to that status.

The problem is that, ever since DAD came out, every meta deck has had a god boss monster, and the summoning of that god boss monster is akin to declaring victory. Therefore, the opponent must stop that god boss monster at all costs, so that the opponent can then get out his or her own god boss monster next turn and win the duel instead. Because of this, Solemn Judgment becomes a necessity, as duelists are faced with a choice between losing all their Life Points to a god boss monster in one of the first few turns or paying half their Life Points to stop said god boss monster so they can win with their own. In a format where said god boss monsters don't exist, people won't be constantly faced with a choice of paying half their Life Points or losing them all, and if they do still use Solemn, they won't have a win button to use the next turn to make up for their lack of Life Points. At this point, Solemn's cost starts looking very expensive, and most people will stop using it.

...but enough about that. hotfoilcard, my man, how've ya been? I haven't seen you since that one time a while back! Great ta see ya, old buddy.

Solemn Judgemnt actually has been significantly weakened this format. Why? I activate Emergency Teleport, bring up Malicious, and synch Stardust. You activate Solemn. I summon DAD, blow up your field, then remove my second Malicious for a third on field, activate a second Emergency Teleport, and win the game.

Or, to a lesser extent, just summon the DAD. What Crab Helmet was saying is true, the only difference in this format is that Solemn becomes less useful not because there are no boss monsters, but because their suddenly are multiple boss monsters in each deck, making the life points lost for solemn too heavy a cost to pay, as they only decrease the effort the next boss monster needs to expend to win.
