You know' date=' this kinda reminds me of Mew and Arceus.

Those who believe in Mew (science) don't believe 2012.

Those who believe in Arceus (God / Religion) believe it.

Um, most religious people don't believe in the whole 2012 thing. At least I don't.

I didn't know that. I thought religious people believed in prophecies and such (guess the Mayan one was too old for them)

No, not at all. (Unless the whole religious community is keeping something from me. 0_o)

Christians believe that the end of the world will come when God makes the decision. After all, how can we humans read the mind of God?

Didn't people predict 2000? Yet' date=' nothing happened.

[/quote']

I thought only the US predicted something like that would happen, other countries didn't care.

The thing that happened in 2000 was that a lot of the machines in the world didn't have the year 2000 in their systems. People didn't know what would happen, so people started to panic. As you can see, everything turned out fine. I don't think that was about the end of the world.

That's not how my friend tells it (and he has a good memory of what he hears). He said that (this may sound strange) people thought the new millenium wouldn't exist and that it would destroy the world or something like that.

Did he have any concrete evidence to back this up?

No, us Christians believe the world will end after the second coming of Christ. That's when he'll raise the dead and pass the final judgement of whom will share the Lord's kingdom and who will be punished for their sins. Thats why I said there was nothing in the Bible about the end of the world (just a bunch of people saying there's a 'Code.' I don't know how they work it out)

Just to clear it up.

And yeah, I'm one hell of a sleeper. You heard my fire alarm? Very loud screeching.

THAT was the 'millenium bug' which infected computers. People feared it would shut down the world's computers, thus effecting transport, communications, etc. It was a real threat, I'll tell you that.

Nostradamus was a prophet with a rediculous coincidence. The Mayans couldn't have had a billion digits on their clock, plus they didn't even say that would happen, they said it would be an alignment of the planets. My Fan-Fic "I Kissed a Girl and I Liked It" explains what will really happen on that day.

Plus:

1. If there was a meteor or asteroid coming towards us right now we would see it.

2. If it came to us, I kinda figure we would put a warhead on an Atlas rocket or something and blast it off into space. Of course they wouldn't hit the meteor itself, because nuclear-charged rocks would fall to Earth. We would hit it shortly before it got to impact point in order to blow it away in the opposite direction.

3. The world's entire nuclear stockpile is enough to turn that rock into space dust.

By the way, 2012 isn't a religious thing, it's based off of a false prophet who made up one big coincidence. The book of Revelation was some psycho's dream, in fact, many in the Catholic Church have ruled it out as a psycho's crazy journal of all his nightmares. Anywho, if 2012 is true, I'm telling you right now, go see the movie "Top Gun" before you die, it rules.

Please, most countries didn't begin to talk about that problem until the closing months of 1999. The US on the other hand began talking about it as early as 1995

LOL! Just because some lazy old man couldn't be bothered making the mayian calander past 2012 means the world is going to end? Lolx! Seriously if this is going to be like Y2K and end out that everything is going to be all fine, good. I would like to make note that everyone who believes in this is a big idiot. See you in 2012 :P

Meh' date=' there's been a lot of times people said the world end (i.e. 6/6/06), but none of them ever happened. It could be true, but I'd like to think it's not. I myself would like to keep on living into old age, but if the world ends, oh well, we all die...

Wait...OH CRAP, I DON'T WANT TO DIE!

I agree.

Sure, just because an ancient calendar ends on a certain date means the world is gonna end? Seriously, I'm pretty sure they couldn't the calendar THAT long. How could they keep a calendar going that long? For all I know, it could have stopped 1 year after it was made and nothing would happen.

The mayans didn't have to since they knew their apocalypse will come before that, but they expected the later civilizations to

Well there's the proof. The apocalypse was predicted by MAYANS. Does anyone here actually believe in their religion? I'm pretty sure not.
