Though in Rise of the Lycans it's been proven William's kind still have their humanity, just greatly suppressed in them. It can still be brought to the surface under the right circumstances. Early in the film when Lucian transformed to his lycan form to protect Sonja, all of William's breed backed off. Later on in the film, when Lucian visited one of their lairs, they didn't attack him because they knew he was a lycan.
