[/quote']

Its sort of like Quickdraw Synchron. Its an effect that never really activates, cant be negated under any sort of conditions, and still gets applied.

As it happens "off-stage".

(or so to say)

Jaden. Nobody cares about Spell Speed 4. Nobody has mentioned Spell Speed 4. Everybody knows Spell Speed 4 does not exist. Nobody is using Spell Speed 4 to argue that Obelisk's effect actually works the way it's written. Your babble about Spell Speed 4 is irrelevant. Your words are all meaningless. Your mind is empty of valid thought. You are a moron.

Well, my friend, I never said anything about Spell Speed 4 if you would be so kind as to check. Obelisk the Tormentor's effect is a rather unique on that lets absolutely nothing negate it in any way, no solemning or pollinosising or whatever. That is all I was trying to say.

Goddamnit' date=' EVERYONE SAID THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH SPELL SPEED. WHY ARE YOU NOT GETTING THAT? <_<

Because Jaden hasn't quite passed the part of kindergarten where you learn to read yet.

Many players have erroneously (and inaccurately) grouped together certain card effects as Spell Speed 4' date=' due to their nature of being uncounterable. "Uria, Lord of Searing Flames" is one such example of this. "Uria, Lord of Searing Flames'" effect of destroying face-down Spell or Trap Cards cannot be chained to, and if activated immediately, even Spell Speed 3 cards that counter monster effects (such as "Divine Wrath") cannot be chained in response to the Ignition Effect of "Uria, Lord of Searing Flames". A similar principle also applies to the "Super Polymerization" , "Spiritualism" , "Chain Close" & "Amplifier".[/quote']
Spell Speed 4 is not a Spell Speed term of the game. It has no real-life relation in either the OCG or TCG.

Upper Deck Entertainment has repeatedly stated that Spell Speed 4 was never a concept that they designed for use in the TCG. However, some have counter-claimed that, since there are a few cards that cannot be countered, it still represents a precedent in the order of Spell Speeds.

Note however, most of those "impossible to counter" effects are in fact Spell Speed 1 or Spell Speed 2 effects.

Crab Helmet consists of any number of Machine-Types, provided, its at least 2 or more that contains at least 1 Cyber Dragon.

So the number-count on how many logic circuits he has is really quite impressive.

I think spell speed 4 was something they made up for seal of orica- *gets shot before finishing post*

Spell Speed 4 does not exist unless Konami decided to create a new kind of card/effect. But Konami is lazy and couldn't even make real Accel Synchros, so I say no to spell speed 4.

No monster effects are Speed Spell 3' date=' no matter what. Only Counter Traps are.

Obelisk's effect that states "The Normal Summon of this card cannot be negated" does not activate, therefore, it does not have a Spell Speed at all. They are conditions for its Normal Summon. When it is Normal Summoned, it cannot be negated. Its printed in plain black lettering on the card itself.

I don't see what's the issue here x.o;

Spell Speed only applies to activations - Obelisk's effect is continuous, so it never "activates", it is applied during the period of time that Obelisk is Normal Summoned. The sentence stating that the summon can't be negated protects against Solemn, while the sentence stating effects can't be chained in response protects against Bottomless.

I think I can see where you make the mistake - you're thinking it works like Jinzo, who can be Solemn'd or Bottomless'd. But Solemn negates the summon before Jinzo hits the field, and Bottomless, being chained, has effectively activated BEFORE the summon, meaning Jinzo cannot negate it.

Here's a simple example. If Royal Decree is in play, can Counter Traps be activated? No. Okay?

From zero to 3 pages in just slightly over 20 minutes? Pretty impressive considering this thread consists of now numerous better players telling one obviously not as good player that a ruling they keep bringing up isn't even semi-applicable in this situation.

I can't even tell what Jaden's saying anymore. He's inserting Spell Speed 4 into other people's posts and claiming that Continuous Effects are claimed to be Spell Speed 4 (and thus that Spell Speed 4 effects never activate, defeating the whole purpose of having a Spell Speed int he first place) or something. I haven't a clue anymore. Screw this topic. Screw Jaden.

Since Spell Speed determines when things can go on a chain and only things that activate go on chains, YES.

Oh god...how is this that difficult?

VERY FEW cards state that an effect cannot be chained to/cannot be negated. Obelisk SPECIFICALLY says that its Normal Summon cannot be negated. That means no Forced Back, no Solemn Judgment, no ANYTHING that negates the Normal Summon.

Also, Obelisk says that no Spells, Traps, or Monster Effects can be activated at the time of its summon. A group of cards from Rising Destiny had the effect that when the monster was summoned (Creeping Doom Manta), no traps could be activated. However, this type of effect only works if the Summon is successful, something a Counter Trap that negates Summons can intervene during. This is why Solemn works on Jinzo. It activates "before" the monster is Summoned. However, Obelisk's Normal Summon CANNOT BE NEGATED. Solemn Judgment and the like can't negate the Summon, which means NOTHING can be used in response to Obelisk's NORMAL SUMMON. No Torrential, No Bottomless Trap Hole, No Solemn Judgment.

It's not an effect that "activates". It's just an effect. You can't activate anything in response to the summon, not even a Summon Negator Counter Trap. This is not Spell Speed stuff, this is the basic rules of Obelisk the Tormentor's Summon.

The only "Spell Speed 4" card that exists is the Illegal Card, The Seal of Orichalcos, which can be discarded to negate anything and can only be negated by another "The Seal of Orichalcos", thus making it the only "Spell Speed 4" card to exist, and guess what? It's not a legal or released card.

Super Polymerization cannot be chained to. This isn't Spell Speed 4, it's Spell Speed 2 with the protection that it can't be chained to, and therefore cannot be negated. That's the rule of the card, it overrides the typical gameplay rules. When a card specifically tells you to do something you're not normally allowed to do, according to the rulebooks, the card takes precedence. This does not mean "try to make loopholes from card rulings".

Uria's effect cannot have a S/T chain to it, which is why using priority when Summoning it is such a good move. However, Solemn (which negates the summon before Uria's Ignition Effect can be activated) will stop it. Divine Wrath will not because you can't chain to its Effect. Uria's effect is still Spell Speed 1, it just can't be chained to.
