evilfusion
Well, in the anime, there are also only 3 Blue-Eyes and it is considered a truly terrifying monster. Almost every powerful monster is considered a rare card, and if you take the context of the early sets, the big monsters were all ultras (Blue Eyes, Dark Magician, Summoned Skull, Red-Eyes, Curse of Dragon, etc). Even Polymerization was a super. Also, I heard Japan isn't guaranteed a rare in every pack like most places, and the anime is set in Japan. So you could possibly shell out the money for 10-15 packs and still get only crap rares at best. Take that in the context of the anime's rare card pool being far rarer to get and you've got some seriously rare cards. Exodia used to be hard as hell to assemble in real life, take that in the context of the anime and it never being assembled until Yugi did it seems a lot more possible. Also, only two duelists have ever used Dark Magician. Yugi and Arkana, and the latter used an alternate art one, but was also associated with Rare Hunters, who steal/win rares. Mr. Judgment Dragon
The only thing Dark Magician has going for it is its support and even then it isn't great. And yes, Blue-Eyes and Summoned Skull have always been better than Dark Magician.
Sleepy
The best part of the Dark Magician stuff has already emptied its lifespan. During the older days (not oldest).... Dark Magician of Chaos.
