Got to see Unearth headlining last night, it was amazing

Also playing with them were Molotov Solution, Skeletonwitch and Chimaira, but friend and I only went in the pit for Unearth.

I saw that exact same show in Detroit a few weeks ago. My buddy almost ended up in the hospital because he f***ed up his ribs so much in the pit.

I wonder if they rotate the setlist.

My friend and I were just watching close to the front until they start This Lying World.

We both looked at each other and thought "It's time."

Then we ran in the pit

There was also a fight between the security guy and some punk who was being a jerk in the pit. The band stopped and Trevor said "What's going on over there, guys? Hey man, that's not cool, don't start a fight" and the guy was escorted out.

Then Buz said "This last song is about peace, and love." Then Ken chimed in, "And friendship!" xD

Then they closed with My Will Be Done. Freaking epic~ \m/

I wish I could get my band together and start doing things. Doesn't help that my drummer lives a few hundred miles away and we don't have a vocalist.

I've noticed some ads for local metal bands but being a guitar player I'm in low demand.

How popular is melodic thrash/speed metal? That's the best way I can describe my music.

That is similar to my style of play. I can tell you people do get sick of all this hardcore/metalcore breakdown s***. Just find your own sound and stick to it. Its a slow start but once the ball gets some momentum its hard to stop it. Don't expect 5000 people to show up for your first show either, you will probably be playing to yourselves for the first few months. Just don't give up.

To be honest it's very easy to just keep playing simple cord changes and breakdowns, thus the abundance of such bands. I have to try hard to avoid writing such bland repetition, but I've managed to come up with some fairly original material. I also like to mix some melodeath and groove influence in.

Just for the hell of it, here's a riff I wrote. There's a lot more to it but here.

E---------------------------------------------------------------

B--------------------------------------------------------------

G--------------------------------------------------------------

D--------------------7---------5--------3---------3--2------

A--0--0--0--7--8------0--0-----0--0-----0--0------------

E--------------------------------------------------------------

As for actually playing shows, my biggest problem is knowing where to start. How did you market your band at first? Would recording a demo and giving it to venues be a good idea?

We knew a lot of people in the scene as well as the owners of the popular venues in town, so we had a pretty easy time finding shows. Make connections with other local bands and ask for some help. Networking is the key to success. If there is a local promotion group in your area that would probably be the best place to start. Let them know that your looking for shows and ask if they can hook you up or at least steer you in the right direction.

I live in Broward County Florida. Metal isn't big here as far as I know. There's one major rock place I know of where CoB played not too long ago, but maybe I can find some smaller clubs around somewhere.

And because I don't usually post songs here's a little something.
