That actually doesn't afford it much. Monster Reborn is the most common revival card, and you could just choose to put it in Defense Position. If you're using Call, you can Summon it on your opponent's turn and then change it to Defense Position. What else?

Paired with dropping the ATK by 50 (which I mentioned in the same sentence), Mystic Tomato -> This in Attack Position, but switches to Defense.

That would defeat the purpose, which would be to put up a wall during your opponent's turn which they don't expect when it's too late to use removal on it while still getting an attack through.

Also, you take more damage if you aren't able to go straight to this in DEF.

I don't see a reason to revive Total Defense Shogun with those...
