You mean when the anime started to play by the actual rules of the game, with each series taking less liberties with the rules, and thus allowing people who play the game to understand what's going on? Wow, that was just a horrible time in our lives as Yu-Gi-Oh fans: "We actually know what the characters are doing in the game that is the main appeal of watching the show!" As for new cards replacing the old ones...yeah, in all trading card games, new cards are released and sometimes they're better than the ones that were released previously, which is the motivation for people to invest in these new cards and strategies and thus enjoy the game more due to increased diversity. This isn't Capcom where they repackage Megaman games and call it a sequel. No one will stick around if all they get are more 1800 ATK vanillas for beatsticks. Cards get outclassed as a result. The replaced cards weren't that good if they were replaced. Also, GX was better than 5D's. They didn't have a cardboard main character, reliance on having a stupid audience who thinks shouting stupid phrases when summoning a big monster is cool, and great character development.
