darkwolf777
Since there seems to be no rules this week and i'm a bit interested, what if Yugioh's Battles worked just like in Magic: The Gathering where: -At the beginning of the Battle Phase, the turn player chooses which monsters they want to attack with. Monsters summoned after choosing which to attack with will not be able to attack this turn. -The opponent then chooses which monsters to intercept the attacks with (or let them attack directly). -Multiple monsters can intercept a single attack. When this occurs, the Attacker chooses the order in which to attack the Interceptors. After each calculation, the ATK of any Attack Positioned monsters will be reduced by the DEF of the monster it battled, and if the attacking monster has more than 0 ATK, it will go through to the next Interceptor. -Monsters, regardless of Position, will use their DEF values in regards to blows taken. -When an Attacking Monster attacks an Attack-Positioned Intercepting Monster, Damage is calculated for both sides. Both players will sustain LP damage equal to the differences between the opponent's monster's ATK and their monster's DEF (assuming ATK is higher than the DEF). When a monster is in Attack Position, If the ATK of a monster is equal to the DEF of an Attack Positioned opponent's monster, that monster is still destroyed by the battle. If an attacking monster survived an attack (because an Attack Positioned monster of the opponent had less ATK than the DEF of your own Attack Positioned monster), then your monster's DEF is reduced by the ATK value until the end of the turn. -When an Attacking Monster attacks a Defense-Positioned Intercepting Monster, only the Attacking monster calculates Battle Damage. The Defense-Position Intercepting monster DOES NOT attack. If the ATK of the Attacking Monster is greater than the DEF of a Defense-Positioned Intercepting monster, no Battle Damage is inflicted (unless Piercing is involved). Like in Yugioh, An attack where a Monster's ATK that's equal to a Defense Position monster's DEF will not destroy the Defense Position monster. -There is only one Damage Step. All Damage Calculations contained within are conducted in the order the attacker chooses. There is only one Damage Step, so assuming you attacked 5 face-down Flip Effect monsters in this way, all 5 will chain together when it comes to that part of the Damage Step. If there are multiple intercepting monsters, even though you attack one and then another, treat it as simultaneous. -The Battle Phase then continues on to the End Step of the Battle Phase. There's the scenario. What do you think of a Yugioh where DEF matters a bit more in terms of battling? Sure it wont stop all the effects running rampant, but either way, Discuss. Bonus Talk: Some also brought up the idea of MTG's Summoning Sickness, so include that in your talks too.
newhat
Unless you add "only one monster can block one monster", the other monsters attack directly? Or does everything have to be intercepted? And if it's the latter, is damage calculated after all monsters have battled? Can I run over my opponent's BLS with three Ojamas under Ojama Country? Sleepy
Blue Eyes and Dark Magician would be more even when fighting each othe- *shot* It'd be an interesting idea for an alternate format if this was made official. Stronghold Guardian seems fun here. High DEF monsters that were exclusive to stalling (like that Machine-Type Impachi) could see more light. Well, other than that, destruction effects would empty fields equally as fast, but in a relatively healthy format....
darkwolf777
Hmm that's right, in MTG, you could intercept with multiple creatures, I suppose I left that out when writing this. Should fix that.
Sleepy
Then Monsters that can attack directly are equivalent to "Flying" (lolWatts) Monsters that Pierce are now monsters that "Trample" Monsters that attack twice+ per Battle Phase are "Double Strike" and I don't think there is a "First Strike" equivalent.
No, there is not. It shouldn't be that hard to design on though. "When this monster attacks or is attacked if both monsters would be destroyed as a result of battle only the opponent's monster is instead." Anyway summoning sickness alone would have a huge impact on how the game is played. Being able to choose what creatures end up doing battle would also have some really interesting side effects. It will also be nice for DEF to actually have a bit more value.
I wasn't even thinking about Summoning Sickness, but that would be pretty great too. I actually screwed the battle stuff in how it works a bit. Well, there's probably a better way to say some of that stuff, but I suppose its good enough.
In Magic, you aren't forced to intercept an attack, but not intercepting an attack will cause direct damage to your Life. Having damage calculation at the same time I suppose is rather poor, so I shouldn't have it like that o.x
Simping For Hina
So, it would go like: Declare Attackers Attack Declare Blockers. Damage. End of Combat Step. And monsters would have Summoning Sickness? That would stop the idea of attacking on your first time if your up second. Would abilities be allowed to bypass it if they worded it like: "This creature can attack on the turn is it Summoned." or whatever?

ekko1990
Only one major flaw to this though. You normally start the duel by setting up one monster for protection (doesn't matter if it is masked or spirit reaper) since your opponent could just field clear you if you overextend. Then, your opponent can swarm a bunch of monsters (which easy to do) steamroll you to death since you can only block one monster in that case.
While that is a point, if Summoning Sickness were included, then that still gets you a turn. Besides, if simple swarming because such a big problem, people would adjust their decks for that. There are many of cards in Yugioh that can handle such things.

This does devalue can't die in battle monsters but I don't think they've been good for a long time.
