why make this game so complicated now

Recommended Posts

i havent dueled for quite a while since GX came out. i really enjoyed the classic ygo, simple and fun. i was dueling on duelingnetwork. i had like 3 Gravekeeper's Servants on the field.

supposely like the card's discription says, send 1 card to the graveyard before an attack. i had 3 so the opponent should send 3, but he said that's OCG, in TCG, you only send 1 card to the graveyard no matter how many Gravekeeper's servants i have.

then later he said i was cheating for using OCG cards or activated an effect in OCG rule or whatever. how do i know. i just choose the cards i like. and the cards that are not forbidden or more than their limit. and do what the cards say on their description. i just wonder, why do we have this OCG this and TCG that? why not just follow the description that is printed on the card?

Best way to get into the game:

- Buy a structure deck (best to learn is machina's force)
- Google / Ask which cards are staples in the format (I can help you make a good deck if you'd like to start you off)
- Put said staple cards in the deck
- Play a lot (emphasis here)

It takes a while, but before you know it you'll start facing off against similar decks (the number keeps growing though) and you'll understand more and more how they work and get the feel for playing against them.

From there you can make other decks, look at the card pool, and make decisions on what you think would do the best for your deck.

The hardest part to making a good deck in today's Yugioh world is that often times, one deck will not do well against another deck, but will do well against another different deck. That is yugioh, its become not to the point where there is a best deck, but which deck has the best number of matchups.

Welcome to the game, thank you for your money. Enjoy your stay.

I'll take advantage of this thread and ask, how much is the game growing in your respective areas people?
The other day, a store in my city had an event to teach people that wanted to learn the game, by teaching them with the voluntary experienced players around, and a bunch of cards donated by people. At the end, only 1 kid showed up for that purpose in the entire day, and he left angry because of I don't even know (or so I heard).

Getting away from the "I know how to get good cards and already know the rules and peculiarities in cards so they can f*ck off" mentality, is there something wrong with the game?

I am actually finding that the game is growing quite considerably in my area. My weekly locals have gone from 15-20 players to 30-40. I don't find learning that way is a good way of doing it. Most of the people I know just got good by themselves or played with their friend who had already been playing. Going to actual "lessons" makes it seem a little bit formulaic and academic rather than a game.

True...

Well, it must be different depending on the area, that's why I'm curious.

For me the best way to get into competitive play is just to netdeck a top deck, buy all the cards off ebay and then just play that and learn to play through that. It certainly worked for me, even if you're not very good at first you start to pick it up and with a better deck you'll win a few games, get better players paired against you in events and gain experience from that.

The game's always been complicated.
Missing the timing.
Fusion Sage.
Chains.
Responses.
Priority (f***ing IGNITION PRIORITY!!!)
Rituals being Semi-Nomi but summonable by Advanced Ritual Art and Ritual Foregone.
Semi-Nomis and Nomis.
MST negating everything
Black Horn of Heaven

Btw your opponent was a massive idiot or a troll. Something like that. And the OCG vs TCG thing is just based on the releases of cards in Japan and Asia vs the releases here. Which if you're on DN you do not have to stick to either unless you enter a duel where the note says to.

Inherant summons are a big problem as well and what makes a summon inherant, e.g. Abyssmegalo.
Abyssmegalo isn't inherent.
Look for a colon or semi-colon on PSCT cards. If there is none, it does not start a chain.

That's what he was talking about. A new player would not be able to say "there's a semi-colon there so I can't negate this with Thunder King". It needs to be made more clear what cards are inherant and what aren't. Also cards need to state whether they negate inherant summons or not.

Pretty sure a rulebook explains this now.

It would be a lot simpler if the actual card explained it though.
Yes but having the card explaining it in depth like that would take up too much space.
There's a reason card games use keywords and Symbols. Everyone who's played Magic the Gathering for an hour plus knows what means.
