Anti-Spell Fragrance

Both players must Set Spell Cards before activating them, and cannot activate them until their next turn.

Squiddy posted it on DGz and I thought that it was actually genius.

Consider the following:

Two of the best decks right now in the OCG are Fire Fist and Prophecy

Both get the most value from their deck when they're able to amass a large amount of plusses from their spell cards in the early game

In Prophecy: every card in their deck

In Fire Fist: Tenki and Tensu combined with Spirit and Chicken

Don't forget that both of these decks will become very relevant when Tachyon rolls around for us too

Let's also not forget Dark Worlds and how they can't keep up with anything if they're prevented from using spells for one turn

My point is: with the speed and reliance on spells in the current format, Anti-Spell Fragrance can reach the same power level as Imperial Order in some cases, given you can prevent decks from functioning properly for a turn, allowing you to easily kill them. It's almost exactly like Shock Master calling spells from Wind-Ups last format, and if you already have a powerful board it becomes a steep uphill battle for your opponent.

The only flaw in this card is Mystical Space Typhoon, since they can chain it to the activation and then proceed to play through your field normally. But if they don't have it, resolving Fragrance can single handedly win games if your deck works well enough with it. Even control decks like Wind-Up and Dino Rabbit can benefit from this, since it slows down their direct answers to their strong board presence. Being able to turn 1 combo with Windups and make a Zenmaioh backed by a Fragrance can be deadly.

Thoughts? I believe that it has really good side potential considering what is soon to come.

I remember the days when this had a lock with Dark Simorgh, 'twas annoying every time I faced it.

I also think it should get another reprint soon. Outside of the US (not counting its release in 2003), it had only been printed in tournament packs, the latest being TU02 in 2010. The US however had its last print in DT04 in Jan 2011. Whilst the card isn't worth that much (around £5 on avg.), I do think it'd be nice if it got a reprint in like the next Gold Series or something.

This will stall them, but it will also stall you. I suppose Atlanteans have no better options for dunking Prophecy, but I'd prefer Cursed Seal in Dino Rabbit because it can shut down Field Spell Cards as well (and their other Sets are usually not obvious).

Tachyon isn't going to do anything for Fire Fists in the TCG unless Chicken is an import, which it isn't going to be because it's forever in JUMP poll territory.

Still a decent side though.

i'm testing Anti-Spell Fragrance in Fire Fist right now. I really dont know what to side against Prophecy until we get Sirius, and such. In Theory it seems pretty good, unless they have Breaker/MST D:

Leopard may be good, but again, it's not helping the deck in the TCG because we still don't have Chicken. After you use Leopard to put down a Formation and then sync into Horse, what are you going to do? Summon Raven or Hawk?

And Cardinal is terrible.

What's your point? Fire Fist are meta already and this still wrecks them.

Seems like an interesting choice, particularly against Prophecy as it absolutely shuts them down.

The point is that Fire Fists aren't going to be the anal devastating deck they are in the OCG until we have Chicken.

And Prophecy has Junon.

Cardinal isn't terrible, he's just not your first-to option. The moments when you make him, you more than likely win. :I
